First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
RESULTS: I average 15.5 MPG on long road trips involving mostly highway driving.

LONG RANGE: I've driven a 3000+ round trip from my home in Vancouver WA to Phoenix AZ and back again and kept all gas receipts and mileage records for the trip. Calculated out at 15.5 mpg overall. Some tanks averaged as high as 21MPG and some as low as 12MPG.. could be terrain, weather (wind), and gas quality. BTW, I ran this trip using 91 octane (aka 'super' unleaded).

IN AREA: My normal around town driving and my frequent trips to the mountains and the coast result in higher average fuel economy of 16.8 MPG.

SPECIAL NOTES: I do have a heavy ass ARB front bumper, Warn winch, dual cb antennas, off-road lights, 3" OME/Dakar lift, higher rated BFG AT KOs (same for spare), and a All Pro rear bumper. All this extra weight and un-aerodynamic gear probably is a factor in my results.

EDIT: Also have a fiberglass shell with racks up top, and about 300lbs of stuff in the back end at all times.

I get an average of approx 19MPG mixed driving.

But since colder temps are here, I get down to 17MPG mixed driving.

With colder temps (between +5 to minus 10 celcius), when going 65 MPH I get btwn 19-21 MPG (very variable) on highway.

Though I do noy baby the truck in the city, but onthe highway I keep the speed down to 65 mph. Also, I idle yhe truck a lot, which decrease mpg.

There are many things that affect mileage, of which many are not mentioned in posts. For example, my mileage is from a stock '11 TRD Sport DC LB 4.0 (with fluctuations as a result of my driving technique). Others reporting higher numbers may drive with the light foot mod, be at lower elevations, have enhancements made to their truck or even are major hyper-milers. As a basis for your mileage, as a stock truck, you should look up your rated mileage, then factor in a reasonable standard for different environments. However, when you start adding parts, like heavy bumpers, *lifts*, *larger/higher traction tires*, you are bound to get lower mileage; not to mention *lead vs. feather foot mod*!

Asterisks indicate potentially substantial changes in mileage. Vehicles straight off the assembly line are as aerodynamically efficient as possible. Mileage as mandated by the government is mandated to improve over the next decades, which means auto makers have to find ways to improve mileage across their fleets.

A big reminder (using a Geo Metro's MPG vs. Speed chart):

As a general principle, MPG efficiency will decrease at greater speeds (due to engine dynamics, aerodynamic efficiency, etc.).

I've read on here that the standards are getting worse fuel mileage than the autos...I find this hard to believe...any thoughts ?

that would increase the mileage on the standard ...making it more fuel efficient ...and reinforcing the age old results

    2011 4x4 4.0L supercharged
6" lift with 295/70/18 Mud terrain tires....

I got 228 miles out of my last tank. Because the speedo has not been recalibrated yet, im guessing i actually went closer to 240 miles maybe? Which would suggest i got 13.7mpg babying it the whole time.

With the supercharger, but Before I did the lift/wheels/tires, i got 280 miles per tank, did not matter if i drove it like i stold it or if i drove it easy.

In my opinion, TRD could have done a better job tuning the part-throttle conditions for fuel economy. There is no reason I should burn the same amount of fuel with super easy driving vs jackrabbit starts and constant 4k rpm shifts.

Def depends on how i drive...

05 double cab trd sport (stock lift and tires)
if i really tried i got 22+ mpg ( hit 400 on a tank b4 light that included a few miles of trails)
worst ever 17.6 mpg ( driving 75-80 mph for most of the tank)

have billys at 1.75 and aal
    - havent noticed any major change in mpg ( only been on for a tank )

its pretty surprising how much driving style affects the mileage in these trucks, my friend with a charger only changes like 1-2 when he triesto get good mpg's

I'm not anal enough to write down and track mileage but at every fillup I do a little math in my head before I reset the odometer. It seems that I'm getting an average of 18-19 mpg pretty much every time.

A 1-2 mpg change equates to about $2 more per tank fill up. If I buy a large diet coke at the gas station then I pretty much killed any savings I made by driving like a grandma.

I care about mileage but don't loose sleep over it. I have to say the if you are getting 11 mpg you either have some pretty seriously big tires/lift, carrying lots of extra weight, or you need it tuned up. That's just not right.

Did you check and see that you are driving a Tacoma and not a Tundra :D.

    6 Speed (6th gear) is 1: 0.85

Auto's OD is higher than the 6speed Manual.

My 05 TRD Tacoma Access cab V6 4x4 6speed gets 17-19 mpg everywhere. My 99 Ford f250 4door 8' box 2wd 7.3l auto gets the same fuel mileage around town and better on the highway.
