I don’t care about counting MPGs. It was a question of it wasn’t doing this before, now it is.

Just FYI, if you reset the MPG readings it seems to read your MPG’s in real time rather than an average. Could be that you accidentally reset it and it was giving you a real time reading until it built an average.

You didn’t notice it last week. All cars consume gas when not moving. I can watch my MPG tick down substantially waiting in the parking lot doing emails on a hot day with the AC running.

It sometimes does that. Just accept it and move on. You've got bigger fish to fry.....no pun intended.

It was doing it before. You just observed it. Your truck is not doing anything any other vehicle does not do.

Nope. I tested it many times over the years. A quarter to a half (depending on vehicle and what accessories being used) gallon per hour.
Last vehicle I tested was my 2015 4Runner. Had completely filled up and got on the interstate when a blizzard hit five minutes in. I was stuck in traffic on that highway for eight hours. When we finally started moving, I took the exit about a mile from where I started. Filled back up and it took around four gallons. I ran the heater and radio and park lights the whole time.

This is 100% correct. That is exactly how the reading works.

Engine is designed for regular. Higher octane means slower burning needed for high compression engines. Slower burning means more heavy ends (Think tar and asphalt) in the fuel which leads to deposits in the intake system and combustion chamber. Deposits create less airflow, detonation, sticky rings etc. Add in exhaust gas recirculation and you have more crap. I cannot tell you the issues I saw as a master drivability tech due to these deposits. Run a good quality fuel and occasionally add an additive like Techron or BG

I filled my previous truck (ford) with 91 one time and it ran like shit. Then i read the fuel section of manual and it said designed for 87, i felt pretty dumb after that.

My taco manual says minimum octane rating 87, so maybe higher octane is better :notsure:Ive been using 91 shell for past 6 months and it seems to be a bit smoother and better mpgs. I just hope im not fucking anything up, i know there is a thread on it too.

My taco is not my DD so its not a big price difference for me.

I run 87 octane only with MT, 20K on the odometer. Yesterday I drove 184 miles...at around 60mph and got 24.8 mpg with A/C on and outside temp in the high 90’s. I think that is pretty good!EAEC6338-B59A-4B2C-85C5-6E98B17BD6DC.jpg
