Well I broke my old record last month, I got 429.2 miles on a tank. It took 20.851 gallons to refill (20.584 mpg), so I wont be breaking that record until they switch to summer gas (when I get 23.5 to 24.5 mpg). The light came on at 353.7 and I figured I could make 1 more trip, and I did with 0.249 gallons to spare (5 gallons of just in case gas always in the back). Cruise control set at 70 to 75 mph most of the time.

Watching the Ultragauge, after getting to work on my first tank with the thing I was at 26.8.
Heavy stop and go traffic on the way home I watched it drop to 24.5.
This was over a 45 mile commute.

These trucks are heavy, and acceleration can easily ramp my "instant" mpg down into the 8-10 range. Of course, it jumps to 30/60/100+ when I let off and it's all about averages, but sitting at a stop light, you're getting zero MPG.

well first of all, the tank is 21 gallons, not 19. and yes you'd divide 340 by 18.5 which would be 18.37 mpg

and i have no idea why people get such shitty mileage

so affects mileage: tire pressure, hills, alignment, maintenance, wind, hills, traffic, driving habits, etc

theres too many variables to be saying people can and can't get certain mileages. i know exactly what my truck is capable of and if i was getting anything worse than 20mpg i wouldn't have sold my duramax to buy this tacoma

    its true.
there are so many variables that factor into this equation.
we have 21gal. tanks but I've never put 21 into it. 19gal yes but never over 19gal. & I fill up when my light comes on.
So in theory, if I used my reserve (although, I have no plans to run it dry)
I could drive it for another 40 miles or so and that would put me up to 380miles per tank

Im going to try something else...
has anyone noticed you get better mpg on the first half of the tank than the last half?
I can get 200-220miles right at half tank.
so if I fill up 9 or 10 gal. at half tank, I can squeeze 2-4 more mpg.

at any rate, Im still loving my Tacoma.
bone stock & she still turns heads

you're just fooling yourself , it only appears to get better mileage because the half tank mark on the gauge doesn't actually represent half of the gas gone anymore than the E is tank empty or the fact you can run 50 miles before the needle drops to FULL

old fords used to do the same thing, at least my 84 f250 did. the first half would take forever but as soon as it the halfway mark you might as well of headed into the gas station.

Just calculate miles travelled divided by gas used .

Miles per tank , 1/4 tank , 1/2 tank mean nothing

Just gonna throw this out there....

Those of you claiming 380+ per tank for the V6, what elevations do you live at and what's the average outside temp during your driving condiditons?

Sea level to below sea level (Florida Panhandle). Crazy weather lately... anywhere from mid 50's to 80's on the drive to work, and the drive home is about the same 9 hours later.

    I'm gonna try this.

So it seems that I get 50-60 miles after I fill up without using any gas since my fuel gauge doesn't move. So after 50 miles I'll gas up which shouldn't be very much, and then drive another 50 miles. It could be like almost perpetual motion.

    I hope your making fun...

if you drive 50 miles and your needle doesnt move how much would it take you to "top it" back off? my guess is right around 3 gallons
    50mi/3gal=
    ...you get my point

380 miles on 20 gallons (tank nearly dry) is 19mpg.

On stock tires/gearing, that is well within the reach of a V6.
Now, to the low fuel light (17 gallons used) 19mpg would only give you 323 miles, and I would personally not push it more than 30-40 miles past the light even on my 2.7.
