So I am new here I have read a shit ton of pages on here but I finally decided to make an account to I can finally ask some questions. I have a 2012 tacoma trd sport 4” rough county lift 20x12 Moro metal wheels and 33x12.50 tires, other mods include removing the ginormous muffler and replacing it with a carven single chamber and a 4” tip and I have the volant CAI with ram air scoop.

Ok so now that you know about my truck my question is what kind of gas mileage would you guys think I should be getting because I do not think my truck should get as bad of gas mileage that it is. I have tried driving like a dead old man keeping it under 2k rpm for an entire tank and still no improvement tried regular gas tried premium gas tried injection system cleaner I even tried driving it like I stole it and no matter what I am getting 11-13 average.

Now from reading on here I see some people getting 15+ I’m just curious as to what I have wrong here possibly too big of a rim and tire package idk you tell me. And go!

My bet is that your wheels and tires are dragging you down the most.

Wheels and tires a bit. All the cool exhaust stuff just makes cool noise.
It could just be your truck! Or a combo of your driving habits and your truck.
Yea tires some ...but my gen 3 with 33” Nitto trails and the 4:88’s still gets about 16ish combined.

Wheels and tires plus winter gas. My mileage drops in the winter about 1 or 2 mpg because of the gas blend.

I would fully expect you to get the mileage you are getting with the wheel/tire/lift set up that you have.
The wheels and tires are going to have the greatest impact.

Also just to add, make sure when you calculate your fuel economy that you are accounting for your tire size. For example, my tires are 3.3% larger in circumfrence than stock tires. So my odometer is 3.3% off. When I fuel up my truck I have to take my odometer mileage and multiply it by 1.033 to get the actual mileage I traveled on that tank of gas.

11-13 sounds about right based on your setup.

I was getting 19 city with 17's. I also made sure I purchased light tires when I upgraded. It is your wheels and tires buddy, I guarantee you added way to much weight with your wheels and tires compared to stock. This is what happens when you go for form over function, it pays to be practical with mods.

So your going to spend how much on smaller wheels and tires to get what?? 14-15 mpg ?
Drive it like you stole it and enjoy it :).
At this point you will never make up the money on your gas.

Slightly better. To get too stock mileage you need stock tires.

It all depends on the gross weight of the tire/wheel combo and then obviously diameter of the tire.

Weight of a tire is heavily dependent on type of tire. The more tread and sidewall protection and greater load of the tire, the heavier it will be.

I have the 4Runner TRD Pro wheels. They are 17x7 and weigh just under 25lbs per wheel (they are a very light wheel). I run 265/70/17s on a TRD Sport DCLB (just like you) and I get 20-21mpgs regularly.

Note: I have no lift, and I don't drive over 60mph when doing my normal day to day commuting to maximize MPGs.

The wheels and tires were on the truck when I got it I have wanted to downsize it’s not purely for gas mileage I would like less rim and more tire for multiple reasons

I had P rated tires on my Taco, Cooper ATP's. I now have C rated tires on my 4Runner but I changed out the OEM wheels for TRD Pro wheels that were 5lbs lighter than stock. I added load range C KO2's that were 5lbs heavier than stock so I am stock weight for wheels and tires.

This is how people screw up their mpg's. They add heavy wheels and heavier tires.

Gas mileage also sucks in the winter. Colder air is more dense. More oxygen molecules will cause the engine to inject more fuel to keep the determined air/fuel ratio. Your engine will also take longer to warm up, causing your engine to run rich for a longer amount of time. Winter fuel contains more ethanol=worse efficiency.

Also due to recent holidays, you might be carrying more weight on you...JK
