Knowing a bit more about your truck will help, year, engine, etc. Actual tire size is also needed, when you say you went to 285's from 245's it doesn't tell much without the rest of the tire size information. You only gave us 1 of the 3 measurements to determine what size you have.

You also have to account for speedometer and odometer error when you change tire sizes. You are actually driving faster than the speedometer says and driving farther than the odometer reading. If you know the actual size it is possible to mathematically calculate the difference. For example when your odometer says you've driven 250 miles you may have actually driven 260-270 miles. When your speedometer says 65, you may actually be driving 70. You're probably getting a little better than 19 mpg.

    Wouldn't you like to know!
In all seriousness, the fact you're getting 19 mpg is pretty astonishing especially without a re-gear or even an OVtune.

I've gotten 20mpg average like clockwork with my fairly stock 2nd gen. since I bought it. If I had a lift with 285's on it, and got 19.2, Id be a happy camper.

That’s what happens when you change the characteristics of the vehicle.

Remember, your vehicle was designed for optimal performance with a specific size of tire. Whenever you change the size of tire, you are compromising the performance and possibly the safety of your vehicle.

The 4” lift has a lot to do with your decreased gas mileage.

Sorry for the lack of info. Tire size is 285- 75-16 on stock wheels. 245-70-16 was the stock tires. Have not uploaded the new tire size into the truck yet, avoiding the cost right now. The shop swears the new tires will only make a difference in a couple miles an hour, not too sure about that though. Can’t wait until I pass one of those speed trap signs that post your speed to see how much I’m really off. I am just using the trip calculator for the gas mileage so that sounds like it’s not accurate either. Figured I would loose some gas, just curious if there are any people that have tried and saw successful results by using any of the gadgets on the market to improve mileage. Thanks for all the responses.

Ps. I am 2.5” lift on 32” tires and get 14-16mpg (16-18mpg with OVTune). Never even got 19mpg stock.

OVTune will give you about 1-2 better mpg, and your truck will drive quite a bit better. Just gotta cough up ~$700... to me (and most who have purchased it) it’s been well worth it. I would have paid $1000 if I had to.

Still, 19mpg with 285’s is amazing lol. I was averaging around 16mpg when I had mine.... you must live somewhere flat?

I got 16-17 on my 18 Tacoma with 265’s and stock suspension. I’d say 19 is solid.

Find the actual difference in your tires. Then it's up to you to do the math to find your actual mpg

My truck is a commuter. 100 miles per day when I go into the office. As much as I would like to, this is the single reason I do not go with bigger tires and a lift.
