Why is my Tacoma only getting 275 miles on a full tank? I just got it and was wondering if that is normal.

Seems low. Even on “winter blend” I’m still averaging 20 mpg, getting about 385 miles per tank.

For good MPG, slow down. Over 65mph, and quick acceleration, hurts fuel economy. My Tacoma has averaged 22.5-23 mpg over the past 3 years.

I get around 19 MPG back and forth to work. That is 7 more MPG than my F250 got.

And yet another Prius post. It’s possibly your driving habits. Truck is learning your driving habits.

Since you give no facts other than the 'answer', anything anyone suggests will just be guessing. Could be accurate guesses. Or not.

The actual answer here is 'maybe'. Depending on the missing facts, and the definition of 'normal' that gets used.

Miles/tank is useless information. Tell us the MPG, and calculate it manually. The on-board mpg calculations CAN be accurate, but most of the time are not. Some vehicles will be within 1/2 mpg, others are off by 3-4 mpg. I wouldn't trust it until I verified it's accuracy by doing hand calculations.

Fill up the truck, stop when the pump shuts off the 1st time. Drive at least 200 miles and repeat. Divide the miles driven by the amount of gas needed to fill up until the pump shots off the 1st time. Trying to use miles/tank is highly inaccurate unless you drive it until the engine stops running every time. When the gauge registers empty you might still have 1 gallon, or you might have 5 gallons still in the tank. And my truck won't be the same as yours. Lets say that both of our trucks have the fuel gauge on Empty. If I drove 275 miles and pump 20 gallons of gas that is 13.75 mpg. But if you drove the same 275 miles and pump 16 gallons of gas then you got 17.1 mpg.

Even at that the MPG can vary dramatically. I've gotten as high as 22 mpg and as low as 16 mpg on the same day due to different driving conditions. I filled up in western Colorado and drove to Denver. Never got over 65 mph in the mountains and there were lots of long downhill stretches where I could coast. The Eisenhower tunnel is about 60 miles west of Denver and I coasted just about all 60 miles to get 22 mpg overall. But from Denver to Kansas City I drove into a strong headwind cutting fuel mileage down to 16 on that stretch of road.

Over that nearly 5000 mile road trip I averaged exactly 20.0 mpg. Around town I typically get 16-17 mpg.
