Work commute close to 40 mi each way mostly HW. Averaging 21mpg. Based on comments I’ve seen I think I’m doing ok. 2wd long bed 6 Cylinder. My full size ram 1500 v6 averaged 23.

I have tried this, I didn't see a difference. The only thing that seemed to work was getting my truck tuned which bump my mpg from 15mpg to 16mpg. I also slowed my driving and don't go over 68MPH, I now average 17mpg.

I can imagine lol. I tend to stick under 2k RPM both ways, so really I think it's a wind factor more than an elevation. But anyways, it seems like everyone gets a variety haha. Tacos you either love em or you hate em... I'm still going to be throwing 33s on, just may have to get a beater that gets good gas mileage for commuting lmao.

i have a 18 sr 4 banger and get 22 during the winter with steel wheels and 6 ply tires. In the summer I average 24-27 with my cheap dunlaps that came with the truck.

Is this your opinion/fear, or do you have some references you can post which support such a statement?

E10 gas will have a negative affect of up to 4% loss in MPGs that is only 10% so imagine the shitty mileage you would get ith say 15 or 20%. The gas has gotten shittier as Ive noticed the decrease in mpgs over the last few months at first i thought it was ur"winter" rotation of gas but I have a friend who works for Irving and he was saying that they are cutting the gas with more ethanol upwards to 20%.

All we have here is e10 fuel grades. So far i've gotten decent fuel mileage from it, almost identical to what toyota claims for the truck during the summer months....in the winter its different with a 3-4 mpg loss. Between the formulation of winter gas, and loss of tire pressure when tires are that cold you will see crappier fuel economy.

That appendage on your rear port quarter is probably hampering your gas mileage... :D

The energy content of ethanol is 2/3 the energy content of pure gasoline. So the more ethanol in your fuel, the lower the gas mileage you will get.

I can get E0 upstate NY, and it's what I buy for my lawn / power tools. However, I can only get it in 91 octane. I would never see a monetary benefit using E0-91 in my Taco versus E10-87. The price per gallon difference between the two fuels is too great to overcome the increased gas mileage I'd get with the E0.

What I was attempting to challenge was your assertion of 20% ethanol in fuel.

Regarding the almost universal (for much of North America at least) E10 has about 3% less energy compared to E0. What I find ironic is the vehicles we owned when our part of the country cut over from E0 to E10 actually got better fuel economy on the E10. Admittedly it wasn't the fuel which improved the fuel economy, it was more the fact the engines had been fully broken in by then; the youngest engine we had during the cut over had 40,000 miles on it and the oldest engine had 140,000 on it. Using the oldest as an example, I tracked the fuel economy on it for the first 20,000 or so miles and then didn't bother doing so again until the cut over happened as I was curious to see the difference in fuel economy. The single best tank of fuel on that vehicle in the first 20,000 miles was 401 miles with an average fuel economy of 23.5; that same vehicle with 140,000 on the clock turned in three separate tanks of over 500 miles, the best was 518 with an average fuel economy of 28.6.

Long story short, when folks claim huge MPG losses from E10 fuel (i.e. losses above two or three percent) I really have to think they have another agenda in play.

Well, I never asserted that some stations were blending ethanol in their gas to 20%. I was asserting that ethanol has less energy per unit volume when compared to gasoline, and therefore vehicles using ethanol blended gas will get poorer gas mileage when compared to being run on straight gasoline.

E0 cannot be found in my normal hunting grounds... and since I can only get E0 in 91 octane, I cannot justify the expense of trying it out. For me, E0-91 will not beat out E10-87 in dollars per mile...

    You did not.

    But this person did,
Which is what @Horseshoez was referencing with the post
Which you then responded to with

In other words, you effectively (though not intentionally) did argue that there is 20% ethanol as in context there is no other reason to respond as you did. Of course, the problem with the format of threads is that it gets easy to loose the context (as @Horseshoez did when he said "your" rather than just saying "the").

In short, it sounds like both of you agree and communication just got mixed up.
