On stock, I got around 19-21 mpgs.

    Post 6" lift + 33" tires, I now get around 16-18 mpgs.

    YMMV.

Damn, where's the fifty odd pics of dash displays with 32MPGs avg on them after a tank fill with a 2 mile trip?

The gas mileage on these things suck. Stop thinking about it and you will feel better.

I just got home a while ago from Haines City. Driving on I-4, and the 429 toll road at 80 MPH I was averaging 20.7 MPG.

That's about what I got when I bought it new with the 245/75-16 tires, I put Sport wheels and 265/65-17 Toyo Open Country AT tires on it at 1,200 miles, and lost about 1.5 MPG.

After I hit around 11,400 miles my gas mileage went back up to an average of 20+ MPG...trans seems to shift a lot better now too.

    Lots, straight from the factory.
Every time I start the truck, I push the ect button. When I’m on pavement, I drive it the same as I drove my 2017 E63, just a lot slower.

I average 14 mpg. I’m quite happy with my mileage.

Check your tire pressure is my thought, it could be low.

Speed kills mileage. My totally stock 2018 OR DCLB automatic gets 15-16 mpg in town and the same when going 80 mph on the interstate. I did a 260-mile round trip yesterday, mostly on a two-lane state highway and mostly going 70 mph, and got 20.5 mpg. That was real mpg calculated when I refilled the gas tank.

I get 16.5-18.5 on the digital read out on 265/70/17 with a manual trans. Iv never done it by hand. My work rig is a 460 ford that will give me 9 when the stars align.. Usually more like 7 Empty (flatbed with side toolboxes) Iv ran numbers on getting a newer diesel and It’s considerably Cheaper for me to keep the obs and 460. Sorry for getting off trac and rambling.

That is all relative, I think they are pretty darn good. My 1st truck averaged 6-8 mpg city. The best it ever did was 11 mpg on a road trip and it wouldn't haul/tow what I can in my Tacoma. And this was during the 1970's when gas prices relative to income were twice as much as todays prices.

My Tacoma is a 2nd gen 4X4 DC. Around town for everyday driving I'm at 16-17ish. On the road 19-20ish. I've done 22-23 mpg a couple of tanks under ideal conditions where I couldn't get over 50-55 mph for miles at a time and on rolling terrain where I could coast down hills and half way up the next. There is no reason a 3rd gen shouldn't beat that by at least 1-2 mpg.

Driving style is huge as is proper tire inflation. Another 4-5 PSI in the tires could mean another 2 mpg. Speeds over 70 mph will suck gas out of the tank. Keep it 65-70 and you'll see 2-4 mpg advantage over 75, at 80 you're paying dearly.

I was always taught that you have either 2 or 3 pedals on the floor. Every time you put your foot on either of them it is costing you money by either burning more gas or wearing out the brakes and clutch sooner. Good drivers learn how to coast and anticipate traffic signals and traffic so they rarely have to come to a complete stop. If you can maintain even 5 mph and time a traffic light so you never completely stop it will make a difference in fuel mileage as well as brake and clutch life. I've gotten 80,000+ out of front brakes in the past, 200,000 out of rear brakes.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with the fuel mileage I can get with a Tacoma along with the ability to tow/haul what they can. But here is no free lunch, If you're gonna play, you're gonna pay.

You can easily unlock 20+ MPG in this truck if you're not in the mountains! This winter I am averaging 19.5 mpg (hand calculated) and routinely get 22 mpg during the summer ( stock DCLB-OR) while my son averages about 18.5 mpg whenever he drives it. I drive it conservatively; him, not so much.

    Drive it conservatively.

I used my truck as a Pool Service truck. Mostly stop and go city/residential short drives. I average 16.5 pretty consistently per tank. Although when I go on trips and it's mostly freeway I pretty consistently get 22 or more sometimes.

I'm still on my first tank in the 2020 TRD Offroad 4x4 DCSB auto but after 200 miles I'm at 19.8mpg for the tank - including the 15 minutes it was just sitting idling in the dealer lot before I drove off. Maybe it's your tire pressure, or you just have a heavy foot? Hauling lots of stuff?

    list is growing fast
From the ocean to the estuary. 35-55 mph. With lift, armor and 33’s. The point is you can get better gas mileage if you’re not speeding, not in stop and go, and just chillin. AFF7205D-CEAB-4A0C-8BE3-B6EC727C29CE.jpg
