I don't think so, since the noise intensity is load-related...

More load = more fuel. Fuel injection systems increase the frequency of injector pulsing versus increasing pulse length.

well they sell 85 here in utah thats all i have ever run in the last 7 tacomas i have had... ill try high octane and see what happens. we only have 90 pr 91 maybe if you are lucky.. i think its the elevation that allows us to have lower octane up here

not to many, love it the way it is

It takes a few tanks for the trucks computer to adjust to the new octane and your driving habits associated with that octane. You will probably notice a slight increase in engine response right away...

i used premium for the first time today on the 3rd fill up and noticed the slight increase. i didn't have to press on the gas pedal as hard and i also notice that the tranny was shifting smoother..if it makes any difference

I can't believe this thread has that many posts.

Lets keep it going, which is more accurate, a palm reader or a numerologist?

I can't believe there are over 400 people who buy high octane gas and really think it does special for them .

The Tacoma does not need it, the owners manual just states it can be used, it does not spec it as needed .

Maybe it you are towing ok, but even then many would not require it unless you have engine detonation ......

this ambiguous ping thing mentioned is hilarious

93 octane is a fine choice for these engines. 87 will work, in a pinch.

87 unless you tune the ECU with another fuel map (timing advance)! The 2tr's have 1 timing map and its only for 87. Putting in 91 = running 91 for a 87 timing advance = nothing!

EDIT: I thought you said 4 cylinder sorry did not realize you said 4 cycle :D

So to summarize, you shouldn't run high octane, because 87 is fine, but if you run high test you shouldn't switch back to low octane, and high octane can help your mpg's but it might wreck your engine if you switch to 87, but it can save you money unless it doesn't save you money, and you're really smart to run 93 unless you're not smart and run 93. Did I miss anything?

Me personally, I'm gonna put the stuff I want into my tank and not let you bullies pick on me and force me into buying something I don't want. I let y'all win with the ScanGuage, yep, forced me into buying that. Also let you win with the MS2's I just got. NO MORE! I'm standing up for my rights and I'm not gonna listen no more (unless Chris4x4 tells me I should......)

I run 93 in my 4-cyl. You have to try it out and see what works best for you. The way I tested mine was for an entire month I ran 87 and kept the mileage. Then I switched to 93 and ran it for a month (all during the summer). 93 in my area is $0.24 more than 87. I got better mileage with the 93 but when you calculate the cost per mile they were basically the same. The truck runs smoother and less fill-ups so I stick the 93. I drive close to 100 miles per day so I have multiple fill-ups per month. Also when you do the comparison, you have to use multiple tanks because it take the truck a few tanks to maximize the mileage when using 93.
