every gas station here has 87, 89, and 93. And one offers 110 for the big-ass boats that come to the lake. :D

    I know.

I'm wondering why Toyota omitted it from the 2009 and later manuals. Could it be that Toyota made some adjustments to the engine/ECU in order to make the later models work better with 87 octane?

I'm doing fairly well on 87 for a V6. Once I have a good baseline on Fuelly and when I have a week or so with no trips planned, I was going to try a tank of premium just to see what happened.

I've been using 93 with Chevron. IGN on the scangauge advanced compared to when I run 87.

However, I got the best gas mileage with 89 (mid-grade in my area). So I might go back to mid-grade soon. Imo, i'd only use 93 again if I was hauling something heavy in the bed or I know I'll have a full cab of people.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
the owners manual says to use 87 so i use 87, but a 2.7 4 cylinder does not need 91+ octane. My old 74 Monte Carlo with a 454 big block V8 did not run right without 91+ octane though, neither do my motorcycles. I always run 91+ in my motorcycles though. Once in a while i get to feeling generous and will put mid-grade octane in it, it especially helps during hot weather, not so much on my Tacoma because it is fuel injected but my Bronco or Jeep like to vapor lock when i run 87 octane in hot weather, put mid grade in them and they run fine.

I use 87 in my home town if a higher octane is avaliable at lower or same price as 87, in said home town, and I'm empty I'll use it so that my gas bill stays somewhat consistant. I also use lucas oil injecter cleaner every fill up, without it I'll drop about 1-2 mpg per mile doesn't really make up for anything or pay for itself, just makes me feel better. If alcohol free gasoline is avaliable I'll always prefer it over anything else. Again with the octane rating per gas price.

Todd's in Aiken, SC is ethanol free. There are a few in Augusta, GA and a few in Chuck Town Little cricket is the only one I know off the top of my head it's over by Jame's Island. There's a couple you just have to find them.
    I'm not sure about around Murell's Inlet(sp?)

Thank you most people don't get that. in Illinois I was using 93 or 92 with 10% Ethanol, can't find 91. In Wisconsin I can get 91 with out ethanol. I got over 10% beter MPG. I might try 89 with the ethanol in Ill. On a road trip I using the 91 no ethanol my average speed was 70-75 I stoped to fill up at 320 miles thought my gauge was broken. With the 93 ethnoal at 60-65 16.5 MPG. 91 with out ethonal 70-75 over 18.5. Google ethnoal the big lie. On a funny note my dumb neighbor puts the K-1 (what ever it is) 110 oct. in his V-Max, tried to tell him. I have a V-rod and he just has to try to out do me. His bike is faster what a nut. I guess he freaked when I told him I could beat him on mine or switch bikes and id win:D

I started getting the dreaded p0491 (or whatever it is) CEL - cat running below blah blah blah.

I changed both o2 sensors and it stayed off for a few months but then came back. I was using 87 for every tank. When my BIL had my truck for 18 months he alternated between 87 and 91/93 and the code would come up every 3-500 miles. Since i got the truck back a few months ago i have run 91/93 every tank and after the first few tanks and resetting the code once or twice it hasnt come back in 1500 miles and counting....

91 burns hotter creating less carbin build-up, means cleaner engine for parts to last longer, got a friend that builds drag cars told me that

Ditto... Premium fuel over Regular of the same brand of gas does not change the miles per gallon or horsepower (IMO based on use and research) and since our truck engines automatically prevent pre-ignition, there is no need for the slower burning/ more expensive fuel. If you like paying 20-30 cents or more per gallon for the Premium, great... it is your truck!
