I just found some Ethanol-Free 90 octane @ $4.49/ gal!!! I'm trying out a tankful for fun. But I know it won't be worth the extra $.60/ gal, $12 extra per tank!! I'll give an update in a week.

After running 91 octane ethanol-free gas and getting 17.5 to 18 average MPG this Summer, I switched to 87 octane ethanol-free 4 weeks ago. I fill up each week and use 1/2 tank a week.

I'm getting the exact same MPG on the 87 as I did on the 91. My cost per mile has dropped a couple cents due to the 87 being cheaper. Guess I'll stick with the 87 since there's no reason to pay more. If I've lost a few HP I can't feel it.

Just fueled up. Absolutely no change in gas mileage. So in conclusion, it doesn't matter what octane or ethanol free or not, that I use. With my 2013 V6 and 33" tires,
    I will only get 15 - 16 mpg.

It will be nice not tracking this anymore. Experiment is done.

I use 87 chevron gas so far in my area I get the best mpg with it. I also use gas treatment every 3rd fill up to keep her fuel system clean.

Only 2 stations in town with non-ethanol, about 50 cents higher per gallon. One station 20 miles away, only 10-12 cents higher. I buy there when in the neighborhood, otherwise buy 10% ethanol locally.

Fuel treatment increases your dollars per mile but not your miles per gallon.

I have used high octane since I bought it, at least the highest I could find for the area I was at. From Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Alabama. Sometimes 89 is the highest I can find but usually 91-93. In Nebraska, and Mississippi ethanol made all the difference when I got multiple fill-ups rather than just driving through. 91 with ethanol got worse mileage than 87 without ethanol. I have used only high octane almost always and always while towing a few thousand miles bringing my mileage as low as 11.4 towing about 5,500 lbs 70 MPH over hilly terrain, but without a trailer in Colorado as high as 22.6 I got 19.4 last fuel up in NJ with 93 no ethanol. I notice with a continuous driving style, high octane and no ethanol, I get the best mileage. You can view my fuelly stats if you want. I've been logging them since I bought the truck. It currently looks lower because I just had a 1200 mile drive towing a trailer.

I track my mileage frequently. I commute about 90 miles a day on the same route. I've tried 91 a few times and noticed no difference in mileage. The engine seemed slightly more responsive but not enough to warrant the cost difference. Ethanol-free gas makes a big difference though. Especially on older vehicles. Back 6-7 years ago we had ethanol-free gas near my home and E10 near work. I was then driving an old 5.0 mustang frequently and in that it was nearly a 2MPG difference between ethanol free and E10. Made a similar difference in the FJ40 I had at the time too. But in my Tacoma I noticed about .5 MPG difference. The only issue I've had with ethanol gas recently is it totally clogs up the main jets in the Edelbrock carb on my 5.0 capri if I don't drive it frequently. Any time it sits for a month with that crap in it I have to take the carb apart and the bottom of it looks like a frog pond. This is with running stabilizer too. This year I'm filling it up at a local airport and taking it for a good long drive before I put it up for the winter.

I run 91 ethanol free. I get better mileage because its ethanol free. I also get better performance. The 91 is the only e-free gas I've been able to find.

100% gas, 93 octane. I plan on keeping my taco a long time. I do get better gas mileage.

I like to run premium. You get more miles per dollar. Toyota stats say you get max HP and torque with premium. Hence, more miles per dollar.

93 octane always, and mpg is always 20+.

Mpg difference with higher octane is much more noticeable in vehicles that get better mpg. Wife and I take our V6 Camry XLE to Miami every year. She runs the thing daily in low octane, halfway down I fill up with 93 and the mpg goes from 24 to 31. That's i95 80mph mpg too.

For the longest time I was undecided but after going 3 months using premium and then switching back to 87 I'm convinced that it runs better on the higher octane. My mpg's haven't changed much but it definitely runs better on the 93.
