not to many, love it the way it is

I am sticking with the higher octanes also. just did my first oil change in the truck and went with full synthetic, I am really happy with the results - the truck responds much better. so.. between high octane fuel and synthetic oil I am good to go - smiling as I get there..

I have no problem paying for higher octane fuel if it keeps the engine happy. I bought this baby specifically TO keep happy...

...By the way, took delivery tonight, but no pics yet. My big brake kit is backordered, so I'm waiting for them to get it in and installed before I start any modding.

What tire size do you have on there? Any mods done to it? I have an Airaid short ram on there and a Borla Catback.

One thing that I have noticed that is not mention is that 87, 89, etc. is the minimum octane rating. Most stations only have 2 tanks (87, 91). 89 is pumped from both tanks. I have even seen rural areas only having 1 tank but selling all 3 grades. That means buying 87 you were getting the same gas as buying 91 at a .20 discount.

    I have seen 87, 89, 91, 93, 97 and 110 in NC.

I have only used 87 in my 09. I have 22K miles on it. I have average 23 MPG since then. A couple of weeks ago I bought a Scan Guage. I do not drive any slower but I have increased to 25 MPG. The only thing that I have changed since getting it is starting faster at lights. I admit that I usually drive like a granny and people hate being behind me at a light.

I think that I am going to try high octane (91 or 93 can't remember) for my next few tanks to see if there is a difference. I always by gas at our local Gate station.

Yeah that should be right then. Again, I have smaller wheels on there so my reading is slightly skewed.

I haven't found 91, so I have been using 93. A few dollars more each fill up isn't a concern if it is healthier for the engine. My .02

So basically, for every 100 miles that you drive, you're paying about $0.13 extra for the 91 octane fuel. Over the course of 12,000 miles, this works out to $15.60. The difference almost seems neglible.

Also note that it appears you only used data for one tank. Variations in driving habits, conditions, etc. may skew your results. If there is little to no variation in your mileage from tank to tank, it's not too much of a problem. It may be better to do a 3 tank average though.

Someone else mentioned that it may take a tank or two for the full mileage benefits of the 91 octane to be fully realized. Just thought I'd add my .02.

I tried 93 octane for over 3 tanks and my truck ran like it was dragging an anchor. Mileage did not improve and it would barely accelerate which almost got me into an accident on the road trying to pass an eighteen-wheeler on a two-lane road that normally would not have been even close. Plus premium is about 30 cents a gallon more expensive. I did my experiment and found that with my truck I don't need to be running premium. Runs much better on regular and is a lot cheaper. If someone else's truck runs OK on premium well then that's great. For me, almost having a head-on collision only has to happen once. 'Nuff said.

Not necessarily. Higher octane agasoline burns slower to stop detonation in high-compression engines. Slower-burning gasoline may not work with ignition timing and variable valve train control algorithms as currently set in the control computer. It may be that the computer could be reset or a "chip" could be installed to change the ignition advance but with my stock truck premium did not work well. If I had seen favorable results from using super unleaded I would have reported that. Anyway I am not going to change anything like that so regular it is. It could well be that there are some variances in different trucks so that some could use premium and see some benefit.

Nonsense. If your truck runs worse on premium, something is wrong.
