when my low gas light goes on, I have 60 miles left

tested using 'distance to empty' on scangauge and how much I can fill it up,
    pretty accurate

just under 2 gallons then reserve light comes on

My Ultra Gauge said I had 38 miles until empty. I was averaging ~14mpg for that tank due to towing, so it was pretty accurate.

I've driven about 20 miles with the light on, get about 18 gallons on that fill up. Supposed to be what, 20-21 gallon tank? I've never filled more than about 18.5 gallons

Please see all the research posts I made (over 3 years ago) on the previous page (9) of this thread.

My truck has 64,000 miles on it now and the gas gauge still reads the same as it did when new. Gallons at various points on the gauge is more accurate than posting how many miles you drove to those points since all of us can have different mileage based on how and what we drive.

Now if all the stuff is on the bottom all ready how does it suck it up empty and not when it's full the pick is on the bottom the crap is heaver then gasoline. If you run the pump dry the truck stops it has to maintain around 35 psi just to run. The pump is cooled by gasoline if it's running it's being cooled if the truck stops so does the pump. It just stupid to run out of gas but your truck will make it through just fine once you push it to the gas station.

Lol...only let mine hit empty once when the light came on (2010), usually fill mine up at 1/2 tank...not sure why, perhaps from coming from a family of 4 & only 3 pork chops on the table for Sunday dinner...almost like a bargain spending less...who knows...I can remember when a Milky Way candy bar cost a dime, wish I had one now...

I have filled my tank many times within a mile of the light coming one... 17 gallons (+/- 0.5 gal) goes in each time. Since we have a 21.1 gallon tank, that means 4 gallons is still in there (+/- 0.5 gal).

When the gas gauge needle is over the E LINE, I have also found that I can fill it with 18-18.5 gallons (2.5-3.0 gallons still in there).

I fill at a half tank normally. Unless I'm on a long trip.

if you are filling up in any sort of gas station that follows regulations, there is about zero chance of pumping dirt into the tank, and with plastic tanks, there are no particles forming in there

If you gas up in some sh**ty town with a sh**ty gas station perhaps, but really there is nothing gonna happen if you run it dry, except some OBDII codes will fire, and the fuel pump will get a little warm. if you run it dry you may need to reset ecu with power cycle or truck might run crappy after fillup, while the system tries to figure out mapping again. anytime the injectors run dry the ecu goes a bit nutty trying to compensate and set parameters, and it might take a bit of drive time for it to normalize

I am east coast and fill up exclusively at Shell or Mobil, and in 15 years tossing gas into my 4runner, the fuel filter flows 100% normal and never needs replacement. some long cross USA trips, only filled up at new stations and Mobil or Shell. places where you know they have failry new underground tanks and systems which dirt just doesn't happen. again, filters are there for a reason and you can get dirt, but nowadays it is very rare. Now I have seen a tanker at some stations and I pass by if I can make it to the next station, or don't need gas right then...just in case dirt is getting stirred up by the tanker

I've used the 4runner to burn old snowblower and lawnmower gas, and also burn off about a gallon at a time of 50:1 2stroke when I used to race minibikes and I only used super fresh gas for those, so I had to get rid of all my weekend leftover mix. in the 4runner it went with a full tank of normal gas.

[you wanna see something sensitive to quality gas, try a ~19,000rpm, 14.2HP, 50cc 2stroke race motor 15,2:1 compression...little friggin monster of a motor]

If I'm in town running around mine will seldom go below 1/2, out on the road usually 1/4 and I'm looking for a place to fill her up.
