I have just figured out that I have a 18 gallon fuel tank. I run it below E and to where it is right on the line underneath. When I do this, I only able to add 16.1 gallons of gas. I'm wondering if I have 2 more gallons of useable fuel still or is it below the pickup?

What is the most fuel anyone has added during one fill up?

Thanks, like I said, I've put 16.1 in it a couple of times. Just wondering with the needle so low if you could really use that extra 2 gallons if need be. I try to never run it that low but gas stations are closed or our of fuel here sometimes and I have to drive to the next one and it leaves me in a bind.

This is the most I've been able to put in my tank. Also the best tank i've ever had at 302 miles. E light was on for about 10 miles and I get nervous when its low, so I never know how much reserve i have left.

I had a 5gal jug of fuel in the bed, I wanted to know exactly when it would run out and I was setting the Ultra Gauge tank capacity.

OP please note, Not a great idea to run the Fuel that low for many reasons, other than you may just run out of fuel.

Mainly you put a strain on the fuel pump it works harder when you run the tank low

That's mostly if you run it under a gallon left.

The most I've put in was 20.5 gallons.

Somewhat. It actually just sucks air in which burns it out. The gas lubricates it. Its a stupid concept, esp now a days, where the fuel pump is in the gas tank.

the most I've ever seen put in a 1st gen tacoma was on a trip from Az to Ca, my cousin didn't want to stop for fuel until we got home, we fueled up 1 mile from our house and he put 17.8 gallons in the tank (We drove ~40 miles with the low fuel light on)

Thank you for you imput guys. I feel pretty good about only putting in 16.1 gallons and knowing I have 2 gallons left. I normally stop when I need around 15 (that is when it hits the line).

I made 2 trips to work with mine on, then decided to drive it out and see exactly when it would go dry, I drove 15 miles past my exit, turned around and when I was exiting to head home, it bobbled, I whipped in the QT and it took 19.44 gallons according to Fuelly, so the 19.7 was wrong, I was going from memory.

I set my fuel tank capacity at 19 gallons and my alarm at a 1/2gal remaining on the Ultra Gauge.

It isn't something I do often, actually rarely. I have a farm in Tuscola, and last winter the first week of December we had an ice storm and everything closed on the way out there, I had to make it to the farm for fuel, it wasn't fun not knowing if I was going to make it or not. The thought of potentially being in the single digits and have to sleep in the Tahoe, wasn't appealing. I know you guys up north are used to it, heck, we're lucky if we get cold enough to kill the mosquitoes some yrs.
