Yes. Think you need to disconnect the filler neck from the bed. Plus the tail lights

When I removed my gas tank, you can do it without removing the bed. With that said, I had a much easier time reaching some of the upper hose hardware with the bed removed. To answer your question yes you can remove your tank with the bed on but removing the bed or raising it up about 6 inches will make the task exponentially easier. You'll need to disconnect your electrical connectors going to your tail lights and invertor outlet if you have one. Disconnect the brackets holding your tank filler line and push the fill line into the fender cavity. The 6 bed bolts might get squirrelly, liberally apply Kroil or PB Blaster the day prior. Crawl under the truck and hit the bottom side of the bolts too. Big breaker bar and the appropriately sized Torx bit to limit the possibility of stripping the bolts. If you have an engine hoist or something like that, it will help to lift the bed out, I think its about 200 lbs or so.

The size bit you need is T55
I just checked mine. It’s been in the tool box of the truck ever since I had to buy it just for those bolts.

So the bed bolts are not hex bolts or nuts but a torex screw bolt ?

Also for sake of knowing if all bolts were off of bed and I tied bed to tree and burned out would the bed slide straight off or does it have to actually be lifted off ??

Don't think you would want to do that, 2-3 people should be able to lift it off fairly easily.
I haven't taken a Toyota bed off yet but we pull beds other full size short bed trucks to do the fuel pumps at work when they come in with empty beds (usually we just move them back far enough to access the pump).

Pretty sure your rear bump is going to stop it from “sliding off”.
You’ll likely need to lift it.

If you have a short bed you cant reach parts of it even with the bed removed so you would have to drop the tank. that is what I plan on doing. It def tight at the top but doable. Removing my bed would be way more work then dropping the tank. Just make sure that you have no or very little gas as that will make it a PIA.

Definitely can, while I didn't see it done my truck bed needed to be replaced 4 years ago. My brother in law did the job (he's a body guy by trade) and told me the tank stayed.

Don’t scratch the paint on your cab or bed corners when taking it off/putting it on. Sounds like common sense, but fairly easy to screw up on. 4 people is ideal, wouldn’t do it with less than 3. Would tape cardboard up around danger points to prevent scratches, you’ll feel stupid doing it but will be worth it!

also the kinematic mounting guides used to align the bed when you put things back together are held in place by plastic clips. Be careful if you want to maintain that luxury.

I had the dreaded bed rattle a few years ago.

I had to spray the bed bolt top, underneath and sides (Aero Kroil) on a monthly basis. It took about 18 months for it to finally break free with my breaker bar.

So you've never even looked at the bed bolts?

Please get video if you use this method.

PS, 'burned out' is funny stuff when speaking of a Tacoma.

Removed all of my bed bolts because they were really rusted. Four came out-no problem. 5th with a breaker bar. 6th took to my mechanic. He used electric heat induction to get the last one. No danger of setting the bed on fire to heat up a seized bolt.
I never removed the bed. Plan on it this year to do preventative on the frame. I put everything back together with plenty of high temp. grease on everything.
    Good luck!

You must have 2 weak friends, the bed weighs around 250 lbs. Unless you're hiring your preteen soon to lift it.

The "kinetmatic" points you refer to are simply alignment points to make sure the bed is on the frame at the right spot, i took mine off as i found they were more trouble than they were worth.
