I agree, just giving him the benefit of the doubt. Anomalies happen from time to time (ie; the new ‘21 with the busted steering rack thread).

This is what the front edge looks likes for everyone who thinks it caught on something.

Thats the fun thing about heavy snow... it doesnt leave impact marks.

Since there is no impact marks you probably didnt hit something too hard, and since these shields dont fold by themselves it leaves 1 option - snow pack. If you hit a snow pile or a area that the plows pushed snow it can very easily be over 4-6 inches of snowfall and got stuck up in there. If a some snow gets in there and pushes it down even just 1-2 inches its enough that more snow pack will get in there and continue to push it down.

I was hoping to wait until it was off warranty to start doing that stuff. Oh well, might as well order a proper lift at the same time and get rid of this TRD junk

I've had mine caked in red mud to the point where even a pressure washer would only nibble at it and it's stayed solid. Something else may be going on.....

I didn’t even know the gas tank came with a skid plate. Now I have to check.

Take it off and let the kids go sledding with it, you need a real metal one like they used to put on the 1st gens.

I think its weird that they even call that a "skid." It seems like more of a gas tank undertray.

It's metal. I haven't seen this happen on a Tacoma but I've seen countless other metal pans, shields and skids damaged from wet and heavy snow.

Weird. I swear the 3rd gen we just had in the shop was a thin metal tin pan just like the front skidplate

They have a metal one on the side of the fuel tank, but offroad and pro have a plastic one under the tank.
