Curious for those that have the pelfreybilt one how is it?
    Is it even worth it?

I was just looking up the specs and its only 10gauge steel or 3/16 aluminum.
Figured it would be 1/4 aluminum and 3/16th steel.

I'm just thinking 10gauge steel isn't really super strong, don't really think it will make that big of a difference.

I was expecting the same as my mobtown skids from transfercase to front, all being heavy duty 3/16th steel.
Not sure who else makes some. Was considering the aluminum just to try and save some weight but dunno.

Don't know but I just ordered one....they are having a "moving sale"....plus, the gas skid doesn't really take any hard impacts. It usually just slides over obstacles.

I have one. It is just fine. It is significantly more protection than the plastic oe cover. Just make sure to follow the directions and only attempt the installation with less than 1/4 of a tank. The fewer gallons of fuel in the tank the better as when you are installing you are compressing the bladder. You will need a jack.

I'm interested in hearing of any stories of gas tank punctures/serious damage from not having tank skids.

There is a recovery story here on the forums and the stuck individual had a punctured gas tank and was resting on the tank. It is a slim chance but when I was ordering my skids I thought of that story and added one to the cart during the flash sale. It was worth it to me for peace of mind.

I have a 10ga skid from RCI. It's way better than the plastic OEM one. It will stop a sharp pointed rock which is all it will likely need to do. You would have to land pretty hard to get a puncture through it.

Figure it was better. And since it doesn't take much aluminum is fine for added protection and save some weight. Plus then I can go bare and don't need to worry about rust with Canadian climate.

I was reading that. Just curious wouldn't that harm the tank then? You're restricting it's expansion

It just makes the bottom flat with the skid mounted to the straps that hold the tank. The volume is not effected.

I have the aluminum version. I wanted to protect the tank but not add a lot of weight. The plastic one is a joke if you off road anywhere that you may contact the under carriage.

Yes aluminum is fine. I will say that aluminum doesn't "slide" over rocks as easily as steel since its not as dense but should do the job.

OEM vs. Pelfreybilt's aluminum. Good insurance in my opinion.

Also, if anyone in the SoCal area wants to part with their OEM skid plate please hit me up rather than dump it
