I have a 2005 TRD. Does anyone know how thick the gas tank walls are? I had the leafs modified with an add-a-leaf and the bracket they used wore a thin spot on the tank itself. Looks to be about 1/4" deep. Hoping I am not driving a bomb around - no gas is leaking out yet.

I'd start looking for a replacement tank.

There may be a way to repair the plastic. However, you should definitely consider a new one if there's any doubt about this one.

I had a friend pick up a piece of road debris on the highway and puncture his tank...they aren't very beefy. At all.

The first mod I did my 2015 was to get a 3/16" steel gas tank skid plate built and installed...

That is pretty bad. What brand AAL? You can drop the front of the leaf and flip that bolt so the head is near the tank to give you enough clearance so the problem doesn't get worse or damage your new tank.

Whoever installed that bolt needs an ass whippin. If you paid someone to install that I would be looking at them to pay for it.

Get a new/used tank. That one is just waiting to leak, you can see the gas inside it is so thin.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the help. Shopping for used first, then showing my (ex)mechanic.
I had a Toytec AAL initially, but when the dealer did my frame swap and leaf recall they did not reinstall it. My mechanic added his
own leaf and clamps which is where the bolt came from. UGH!

The shop that did this told me to bring it in today and I did. He said they will replace the tank and took full responsibility.

Wow and holy sh!t. Sorry that happened, but seems like a good shop to take responsibility. I had a local shop who didn't tighten up lug nuts on a car I had brake work on. The babysitter picked it up and the tire flew off causing about 3k in fender, brake, wheel damage - the shop towed it and paid for all the repairs. Never even questioned the incident.

That mistake could have been catastrophic. The shop's attorney probably advised them to pursue that course of action.

Yeah, I can't find the photos - it was not good. The tire flew off, went about a hundred yard down the road, took a left across a yard, hit a curb and jumped OVER a car in a driveway and blasted through the some woods to a neighboring block. Really lucky no one was hurt. Almost one year later the girl totaled the car. :-( by the end of the experience I just hated everyone.
