The gas tank support strap broke on my 2007 Toyata Tacoma. How dangerous is this to drive until I can get it replaced?

Can you post a pic of the broken strap? Is it one of the 2 main straps or the optional one for the Off road version? If it is one of the main straps you should get it fixed asap.

Park it until it's properly repaired.
Beyond the obvious safety issues damage to EVAP is expensive to repair.

If you have a ratchet strap, then you could jury rig a support in place of the broken strap as a temporary fix.

Definitely, that needs to be repaired.

Imagine a worst case scenario...... gas tank falls off truck while running the interstate at 75+ mph.....

Might turn into a hot exciting ride. :bananadead:

Just buy the Amazon spectra straps. They’re under $80 & if your replacing one of the straps then replace both. The other strap isn’t far along. Do not drive with only 1 gas straps. That’s the rule. If u have an off-road get the off-road studded straps for the gas skid

If one failed, then the other one could be in bad shape as well. Don't take chances with a gas tank.

Not sure about tacomas, but 4th gen 4runners have an all encompassing tank skid that will hold the tank if the straps break. Sounds like tacomas don't have that though, so I would replace asap. I've got a writeup on replacing mine on the 4runner, should be identical process just different parts. Not very hard or time consuming. Heres the writeup with 60+ pics:

    Shouldn't have bought a Toyata.
