Gas tank won't fill...

Hello, I finally found my Tacoma 4x4 (2004, SR5 V6) after many years of looking. 122k miles. When I pump gas, the gas nozzle keeps shutting off. Youtube tells me it's probably the hose from the charcoal canister that's blocked. The canister's at the rear of the truck on the driver's side, but I don't see any hoses that aren't leading to the engine. Does anyone know what hose to remove to look for blockages, and where exactly to find it? Or, am I being led astray by Youtube and I need to do something else? On a scale of one to ten as a mechanic, I'm "one." All advice appreciated!!!!

Recently, I can't do that anymore. No matter what I do it clicks off unless I hold the nozzle part way into the tank at a very low setting by hand.

I originally thought it was just Chevron or some new law causing this but it is happening at every gas station I go to and I just had the problem in WY, UT, and NV. I normally buy non-deathanol in WY and since I just took an 1800 mile trip to NV and back this problem happened at every gas station I stopped at with every single one being Chevron except for one. I also had the same problem where I normally buy the Deathanol free although it doesn't happen every time.

Does anyone have a clue as to what is causing this? Do I have a bad valve or something in the emissions system as far as vapor recovery? The last thing I want to have to do this winter is stand out there and "baby" the pump in a 60 mph wind at 10 degrees this winter.

It is most likely that your charcoal canister is plugged up or a line going to or from it is. The problem: The gas tank is not venting while fueling. When the charcoal canister( scrubs the air leaving the tank of gas fumes) is plugged up, air can only escape through the fill neck which cause the fuel to to back up in the filler neck causing the automatic fuel cutoff at the gas pump to cutoff.

Here's an update. I took the line off of what I think is the VSV valve under the hood that runs to the fuel tank. I blew compressed air through it and the problem is solved. I could hear the air coming out of the filler neck. It seems that the line that runs to the fuel tank can get clogged so blowing out fixed my problem. I'm still going to get under there one of these days and check out the canister. You can tell if they are going bad by pulling the hoses and checking for little charcoal pebbles in the hose.

Part #77201 filler neck vent pipe. Follow the pipe to find the problem.

I am switching teams from Nissan to Toyota. I had the exact problem last year. On the charcoal canister, there are two solenoids .
you want to replace the VENT solenoid. I think I bought mine through ROCK AUTO for about $70 Canadian.
It was a hour fix with nothing more than pliers and a flathead screwdriver.

Just suddenly got the same issue with my 03 3.4l.. now ever since i got it the thing always had a case of the gas tank farts whenever i shut it off and even if i remove the cap and relieve the pressure the thing will still let a fart out the tank every minute or two even after its cooled off.. guess im about to go through the whole thing to give it the pepto and the relief it needs.. including me, took 20 mins to pump up.
