Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Some people do, some people don't. Try it for a few full tanks and go with what feels better for you.

Don't let all the shmucks come shout down your curiosity with their text-book/parrot experience. Try it, like it or not, and do whatever you want to.

I did see difference between regular and ethanol free. It was awesome, better response and more miles out of the tank. Can't remember numbers though.

I get regular gas when I eat Taco Bell, super when I eat boiled crawfish. There's a big difference.

Not for me. Tried 91 octane twice and I did not see/free any difference.

General consensus is: more than a few tanks all in a row or the computer cannot begin to adjust to the burn characteristics of the 91.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I know I'm not 3rd gen but I had to chime in since my wife commented on it this weekend...when I load my Taco down with gear and tow my trailer full of crap I always run it near empty first and then fill it with 91 non-ethanol. She pulls so much more smoothly and easily. We were headed up a good hill on the interstate at 75 mph and the truck barely downshifted to do it. My wife commented how well the truck handled all our gear on hills at hwy speed. I said, "That's the non-ethanol, baby." I always go cheapo 87 octane unless I know I'm going to haul a good load, then she gets the non-oxy.

I felt power cut up a hill under load with 87 as it knocked on the last tank. QT top tier gasoline. This tank has 91 and so far no knocking. The car is obviously not tuned for above 87 but that doesn't mean it won't ever knock with it.

I've tuned subarus for 91 and still saw plenty of knock scenarios based on fuel variability and load/environmental/heat soak conditions. Stepping up a grade is a harmless buffer for quality variables that is cheap ease of mind.

There is, and trying to tune for full boost conditions with extremely high load conditions in an upper gear is a losing battle but I've experienced knock in plenty of my NA vehicles too in the right (wrong) conditions. It's unlikely to cause damage but the timing getting pulled momentarily to correct for knock is disconcerting and not something I generally care to bother myself with.

Where can I fill up 20 gallons for $8.00 per tank? :cookiemonster:

Price difference between 91 and 87 is almost always only a .20 difference leaving you at an average of $4.00 more per tank.

Most mechanics can tell you that fuel systems using 91 are a hell of a lot cleaner... which is why I use 91.

$4.00 per tank is worth it to me. If it helps performance, I haven't noticed... but I do notice less pinging at low Rpms.

    Just my 2 cents...:boink:

Edit: fixed the math thanks to bob... apparently I shouldn't do math on mondays...

It's about 40 cents for me. My truck runs on regular...see manual Toyota engineers wrote.

Your math says you only have a 10 gallon tank? Yet your opening line says 20. Which is it? :boink:

There is no additive difference in 87 and 91, within the same brand, so I don't know what 'your' mechanics are basing 'cleaner' on.

Improved performance is your call. Often based on many variables. If it works better for your conditions, good for you!

Generally speaking, any higher octane than what the book calls for is a waste of money.

It won't hurt anything but your wallet to try it though, so go for it and see if there's a discernible difference in your driving.

I've tried it on prior vehicles and never experienced a discernible difference.

I hate to say it, but this is completely wrong. SOME do....as noted above. Visit Quik Trip's website and they call out the same additive package in all grades as a benefit to their gasoline, so it's not a universal practice.
