I have a 2017 TRD Off-road and i was just wondering what gas you guys would recommend. i have been putting in 85 unleaded but was wondering if 87 was better and what the benefits were and if 85 is still just as good to put in

Put what the manual suggests. I put 87 because, that’s the lowest grade in my area. Runs fine.

I'm assuming you're in a higher altitude state if you can get 85 regular at the pump. In that case there is no need to switch to 87 unless you want to.

I tried pumping Jet-A to unlock those turbo horsepower gains. I was going to youtube the performance but for some reason the truck won't start, and shady dealer refuses to honor the warranty. :notsure:

I'd switch to 87. You're probably fine because the ecu can detect that you've been putting in too low of an octane and it adjusts for that.

I hear people who live at high elevation run 85 in their trucks but I'd run what the manual says personally.

ok thanks for ur insight. i didn’t know if this was a stupid question to ask. i had an 01’ tacoma and always did 85 but i definitely wanna take care of this new truck. just curious what’s kind of the difference between putting in 85 and 87?

Better to ask than not know.

Higher octane prevents pre detonation. You would hear knocking from the motor running too low an octane. Newer vehicles can adjust for this to prevent knock and damage to the motor though.

Put in 87 like the motor wants and I'd bet your truck will feel faster.

Joke now but the next generation of kids wont even know what fuel is.

And they'll make fun of us for not knowing how to work on electric cars.
