There have been a couple of times when I've happened to fill up as soon as the light comes on. I've only been able to put in 15 to 15.5 gal in those situations. I think I read in the owner manual that the tank capacity is 18.3. This tells me I had 3 gal left in the tank when the light came on.

Since then I've noticed that how level the truck is can have a big impact on when the light comes on. My low fuel light always seems to come on first when I'm going uphill (lots of hills around here), then it'll go off going down the other side.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The low fuel light is mostly fluff, and way overrated. :gossip:

If toyota was serious about wanting to send a message about getting low on fuel they woulda made the warning progressive. Starting out where it is fine, with the light coming on at the 3 gal mark. But is should progress from there. :D Maybe change color to bright red at the 2 gal mark and finally at the 1 gal mark start to flash and emit a warning screech with a voice like Steven Hawking's saying "hey stupid, better fill up soon!"
