What u said is absolutely untrue, if you think 93 octane has more ethanol than 87 ur smoking crack buddy. Im not saying by ur safer by getting 93 as it has roughly the same amount 10 % is 10% however when it come to higher octane gas they dont have anymore ethanol than what it states on the pump. If it says 87 10% 89 11% 91 13% 93 15% if it said something like that id believe what ur saying. I think its completely the opposite tbh.
To be honest if u think the waaaay cheaper gas has less of the wayyy cheaper product ethanol to bump up its numbers ur wrong.
Simply put, ur still getting a better product with 93.

I have a 2012 and a bmw so by accident really i ran 93 a few times in ny little 4 cyl. It runs fine. I mostly put 93 if i find a pump with 91 I'll use that. Ive been running my truck that has 122k with 93 since i got it. I feep like it runs great. Zero issues for me.
I just dont feel like the minimal diff matters either way to be honest. With that said i do feel like it runs slightly smoother on idle than when i first got it. Id bet my engine is cleaner than others. I go to 1 of 2 gas stations that are exxon and very busy occasionally one citgo which is also very busy. I never go to sunoco every they are shit gas stations with the shittiest gas in any town, god I hope people remember that. I never go to a questionable station ever. I dont care who is the cheapest. I do t care if i spend more, and i dont care what people who have never tested anything with no proof of what their saying because its next to impossible to prove a case on either side as it would take millions of vehicles with constants that are impossible to maintain, because as u said the inconsistencies are always present.
Buy what u want is what I say.

In terms of its octane rating, ethanol has a rating of 113. Fuels with a higher octane rating reduce engine knocking and perform better than ones with lower ratings.

Thus, blending 10% of ethanol with 90% gasoline increases the octane rating of regular gasoline by two points. Since most the gasoline blendstock used has an octane rating of 85, ethanol is used to boost it to 87. As such, the higher the ethanol content, the higher the octane. For example, the octane rating for E15 and E85 is 88 and 108 respectively.

Thanks to ethanol, we no longer need to mix octane boosting additives that are harmful to the environment such as methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE).

Ethanol’s high octane content is also crucial in ensuring high compression engines run smoothly and with record high fuel prices over the last decade, more and more carmakers these days are replacing large naturally-aspirated engines with smaller displacement high compression turbocharged or supercharged engines which offer better fuel economy.

Yes there is more Ethanol in higher octane gasoline is a cheap way to boost numbers .

I run 88 octane, Etoh free. Yesterday, it was 215. I try to fill up with etoh free as much as I can. I don't believe in putting food in gas.

there is zero benefit to ethanol in passenger vehicles. ethanol in gasoline is a farm policy, not an "energy" policy.

    Another observation:

Just because you read an article does not make you an expert nor clever enough to deduce anything from it.

A lot of information in this thread ranges the gamut to "sorta right" or "incomplete" to "blatantly wrong" and "fucking absurd".

As someone who has been in the refining and finished fuels business for a long time, threads like this and the posts contained herein are like horrendous accidents. You don't want to look but you just can't help but take a peek.

I run 91 octane. I get better mileage and I get peace of mind when I run higher octane with extreme temperature fluctuations causing condensation in the fuel tank.

    You said it .

I'm in the Marine and Powersports business , Ethanol is a double edge sword for me , it makes me money from all the corrosive damage it causes to boats and watercraft . but I would rather not see the stuff used . Its very political , its agricultural welfare that buys votes .

I have a uncle who is a Farmer in IOWA and would never use blended gasoline in any gas equipment causes damage to machines and equipment that sits .

Hmmm!! 4 Toyota’s on my 5th all run on 87 octane gas with 10% ethanol, all had 350k plus miles and running fine when I bought the next truck, how does ethanol hurt these engines?

I am running 87 and 91 octane on occasion. Getting 25.5 mpg on my 2.7 engine with 135500 miles on my '06. I was using ethanol free, but, the Exxon gives me .03c per gallon, so I quit the Mom/Pop station that sells it. Is there a better deal somewhere? $1.619/gal.

Toyota manual says 87 octane. So i run 87 octane, or higher if unavailable. I bought the truck, I'll trust the engineers.

I don’t think it’s all in my mind, I filled it with 87 when I first got it. Normal acceleration seemed ok but when pushed it pinged. So I went with 91, the pinging stopped. In the 9 months I’ve had it, I did the plugs, air filter, and a couple oil changes. Maybe because it still had the original plugs.

Snake oil, I’ve used redline, good stuff. Liquid moly jectron is what I use now, better stuff.

75% of the time I use Sunoco 87. Sunoco 93 the other 25%. I have no particular fondness for the brand; it's just close by. I threw in a can of Gumout Multi System Tune Up a little less than a year ago just because I had an extra can lying around. Made a noticeable difference, and no, it wasn't my imagination. Truck had about 90 K on it at the time, original plugs, and never sees any hard duty or RPMs over 3 K, so it could've been a bit carboned up. Still on original plugs at 99.5 K and the truck still runs well. 2013 4 cyl, 5 spd manual, base trim.

I occasionally toss in some Techron concentrated. I got some bad gas in the middle of Arizona somewhere, and my truck ran like shit. I ran a jug of Techron in there and it cleaned it out. However, I don't use cleaners on a regular basis.

I’ve been using Costco 87 octane for the past two years. I couldn’t believe it was down to $2.56 a gallon when I filled up on Thursday.

The goofy engine software in my '14 keeps "adjusting" the spark timing to accommodate the anti-knock sensor. So one tank of bad gas results in reducing tune downward - and it doesn't try to bump it up when the tank is refilled. This is downward spiral that means the truck only runs as well as the last tank of crummy gas. I believe this is the basic reason for fuel mileage that is typically equal to the hemi in my old Ram. Without the power.

The only (easy) solution so far has been to give the little truck a dose of PEA (Techron) and let that do its work. Fill up with what I hope is good stuff and then temporarily remove the battery lead for long enough to tell the ECU to re-tune.

man you’d love it here in Oklahoma. On the other hand probably not but Costco here same gas is
    94 cents a gallon. That’s .94 not a misprint.
