Has anyone with a 98- 00 every switched the back color of the gauge cluster to white? (just like the 01- 04 year models) I am about to buy new needles for my 98 tacoma since i changed the original color and want to know if i can just buy the white part off of camelback toyota. Thanks for the help!

I have seen some white panels for sale online...kinda pricey. I think they where around 80$. Also a company on ebay sells white overlays for your cluster for like 25$.

why not just buy a gauge cluster from a 01-04 truck? I think that's the best option to get what you want

So I take it they are totally interchangeable? Would that not cause a issue with his mileage reading being wrong?

I would go that route if i could find someone to adjust the mileage for my truck.

as I understand it, the mileage display is stored in the gauges cluster itself on a chip and not info from the ECM like some newer vehicles do

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless there is a large difference (over 20-30k miles) in the mileage shown

it wouldn't surprise me if you found one with roughly the same miles as yours has

try this website for places to find a large source of 01-04 white guage clusters http://www.car-part.com/index.htm
