Swapped the 22r with a 1997 5vz fe 3.4l, swapped the old body to a 1997, kept the dash cluster from the 1990.
Hello everyone! This is my first post, so thanks very much for all the advice ahead of time.

    So the story is:

I purchased a tacoma that had the engine swapped out for a 1997 5vz fe 3.4l and the body got swapped as well. All seems to be in functional order, except for the dash components. The dash is from the 1990. I don't have a functional pressure gauge or a temp gauge or speedo. Speedo is a simple fix, the cable needs replacing; the other two are my question.

I remember reading somewhere that the voltage difference between the 90 and the 97 causes the gauges to burn out straight away. If so, has anyone figured the correct gauges for them to be functional? Or would the 90 sending units fit in the 1997 to make it work for the 1990 dash cluster?

    Thanks again,

    Mark

I am thinking that an auto electric shop would be able to tell you. There might be what is called an instrument voltage regulator on the 90 pick up.

I have a 92 4Runner with a 1998 3.4 I had no problems with the stock gauge cluster.Using the sending units in the engine

It really sucks buying a swap having no clue just how anything was done I would venture you don`t have the EWD`s for all the vehicles in the swap.

Sounds like something was not hooked up or the gauges are just worn out.

Sometimes problems going from a 4cylinder to a 6 cylinder with the Tach

Is the OBDII system hooked up ??

Does the Tach Work the Voltmeter??

I run a mechanical oil pressure gauge and voltmeter

The more i dig, the more i find not connected. It is a good lesson in vehicle electronics, so im not too upset. though it would be nice to know what he did to it lol

I have found a few items not hooked up or plugged in, so im thinking the same as you.

the tach works, and the volt gauge works as well. im assuming it news new sending units or just plugged in the back.

I spose my real question is for the sending units to the dash cluster. Since the engine is 1997 and the cluster is from the 90, do they generally have plug and play connections and voltages?

That's correct. body and engine are from 1997s and the frame is from a 90 pu

Ok, why are you using a 1990 cluster?

One seldom changes the cluster of the vehicles getting the engine swap .I gotta agree this makes no sense what so ever if I figured out what I think the OP has!!!!

One your 1990 cab the missing plug on the ECM is attached to the cab harness this needs to be sourced and the plug pinned to match the Donor ECM this allows the merging of the Engine Harness to the cab Harness .

Once that is done that allows everything in the 1990 cab to be used.

That is why having the Toyota Wiring Diagrams for the different years involved is needed it is not hard to do the wiring just takes time and why custom swap harnesses are so expensive .

I was in the middle of a 3.4 swap into a 1987 Toyota 4x4 pick up till I got hurt and things got pushed way back if at all.

This correct that the cab is a 97 Tacoma and only the frame is swapped no wonder your having these problems.

What year is the engine out of??

Should the real question be How do a Install a 1990 Pick Up Cluster in my 1997 Tacoma??

    My head hurts now!!
