just take the gauges out and pull the plastic cover off and try and buff it out than once your done just get some clear plastic protective cover like u can get for your cell phone or something and cover it with that. Than put it all back together and you should be good.

When I said scratch easy, I mean that if you wipe them with a non-microfiber rag they get little swirly mark types of scratches very easily thats mainly only visible in direct sunlight.

I haven't had that on the tacoma though because I'm careful after learning my lesson.

I've never had one literally scratch from rubbing my fingernail on it, but I don't think I've ever done that.

Haha I'm sorry but its funny how you say just take them out and buff it...
I don't know how to take them out and have never buffed anything in my life... Sounds like another thing for me to bug a local TW member about LOL

Ill fix it somehow, I've got some good suggestions here.. thanks guys :D

Never touch that piece unless it's with a quality microfiber towel, it scratches so easily. Paper towel? That's what scratched it in the first place, that is anything but gentle to soft plastic

Yeah, I scratched mine with some window cleaner and a paper towel. I am going to take it out and put a cover over it to see if I can make it more durable.

Every vehicle I have had in the last 20 years scratched easily in that area.

Rule 1 is never to use windex and paper towels. Have you wiped your face with a paper towel? Scratchy.

I have always used my damp chamois to clean the gauges.

I wouldn't worry about it. Let it be. Don't go ripping your new dash apart to fix a little scratch.

Me? Use a paper towel and windex? NEVER :bananadead:

I am going to try some scratch remover and hopefully that will do the trick

Sry Jen - same thing happened to me on my 09 when I wiped a 'little' dust off the display with a paper towel (swirl marks). Pissed! No way that clear display should be so sensitive.

Once burnt, twice remembered. No consolation, I know, but at least you know you ain't alone! :( :)

BTW - My truck is a Mexico build.

That is redicilous. There is no difference. Weather built at NUMMI or in Mexico I would imagine the parts are sourced from similar places with similar specs and tolerances. Both in my 08 NUMMI Tacoma and my 09 Mexico Tacoma, most every part was stamped with "made in Mexico".

Yeah the dustoff is a great idea. I just picked up 6 cans at Costco for $17 not sure if that is a good deal or not. :notsure:

I got them for the tacoma but found out they work great all around the house, dusting my knick knacks & cds shelves, all the electronic stuff. :D

Great suggestion for the OP & sorry to hear about the scratches, mine is too. :(

I've used this many times for plastics and it does a great job. You can get the 3 parts (heavy, light, and polish)
