I too was pretty impressed with the tweets, Its been a while since I played with a tweeter like it, and it was pleasing - great midrange, even crossed low. Blended well with the mids, which actually worried me a bit.

I agree about the bass, when on flat EQ. It was certainly better than stock, and with a bit of head unit EQ it was very good(which is something we all do). Sounded like 8's in the doors, which usually lead to great midbass, but not great subbass. Were I restricted to no sub, for any number of reasons, these certainly would not disappoint. I would probably consider running no sub with those, were it not for my inner bass head, and the gear I already have...

Frankly, I think the above thoughts of running with no EQ is fair, but a bit harsh - especially considering what even a GOOD 6.5-6.75" driver would give.

    Steven -
The other driver being discussed my be an upgrade, but I cannot find a FR graph for it. Only thing I can find list it as the same depth (90mm) and a recommended bandwidth only to 500hz. Have any info I have not seen yet?

I was out when I texted you that and when I got home I found the same thing. It's really not as shallow as I thought. I think I remember it being shallow for a sub which in reality it is. It's just not exceptionally shallow for a midbass.

And on the FR topic I think it would do fine up fairly high. The tweets might have needed to come down to 2k but I think it would be ok. I don't think it will happen though because I think they aren't really being made anymore but I'll find out tomorrow hopefully.

I'm thinking we need a driver with cone area and a really high QTS spec. And I'd be lying if I said I didn't give those Tang Band 6x9 subs a look. But alas, they're too deep.

So, you say you want to search for a little better driver then? For my uses, it sounds like this would be a great option. I'm not looking for window-rattling bass, just a nice full sound. I would rather have quality than quantity.

I hate it when I'm sitting at a stop light and the "bro" in the car next to me has his bass turned up so loud, and it obviously sounds like total poo.

At least it sounds like you've got a great tweeter to work with.

The drivers we tested make a great sounding kit that's for sure. And with some simple EQ tweaks the sound is more than adequate. But the perfectionist in me wants more. If I can figure it out I will. Still playing around with ideas.

Damn, too bad I wasn't in texas! You guys could use my truck as a platform since i have the processor capabilities and the sail panel pods already installed. The tweeters you're using has the same flange dimensions as my xt25 tweets. I may have to give those tweets a try...which exact model did you get?

Thanks Supersuk, but the goal is to avoid any custom work, special pods, or speaker placement. Basically a plug and play for stock locations.

i vote for the morels, but i'm pretty sure this won't work on my truck lol... very interested, but yeah I'm pretty sure the woofer won't fit without some major cutting of the actual door sheetmetal...

By all means, jump on those Morels. I would love to hear your review of them in the truck!

The bigger issue (to me) than door cutting is getting a 9" diameter driver to fit the door card without problems.

I dont see more than MINOR cutting to get the driver to fit on the door with a 1.5" baffle

Are these the morels you speak of?

    http://www.morelhifi.com/products/mob_subwoofers_admwsw.html

And if I am correct, this would be the pdf for the Peerless woofers ItalynStylion is testing currently.

    http://www.tymphany.com/files/HDS-P830869 Rev1_0.pdf

It looks like the Morels would be a better driver, as they reach down a little lower, as well as a little higher. I am no audio guru by any means, I just have a trained ear and willingness to learn and experiment.

Only issue, of course, is mounting them. The morels have a hole diameter of 192mm (7.56in) and a depth of 71mm (2.80in) should be okay on depth.

Well, come to think of it, the peerless I am looking at is 190mm and 89.5mm respectively, so this should be doable. Only thing I couldn't find on the Morels was a price. Google shopping is usually more helpful

Again, I am no expert, just trying to contribute to the endeavor

A couple of thoughts - first, those drivers are not available raw, only in their kits.

Second, they cost quite a bit more, and the idea is to keep these as a "budget" kit. Looks like they go for about $200 bucks per, and the raw driver linked below is almost $140 per. That means raw driver pricing of well over $300 bucks, without adding things like baffles and crossovers. If someone is willing to spend the money to rock those, or decides they want a full install, they will spend a LOT more cash.

Third - I do not see a FR for these, only their recommended range.
The closest they offer as a raw driver is this:
    https://www.madisound.com/store/manuals/CAW938.pdf

Less Xmax, lower sensitivity (needs more powa!)

They do not show below 100hz on the graph on the page, but you can bet money it drops very quickly afterwards... Look at the off axis drop at about 150hz... right about where those strong midbass notes are beginning to really hit.

Not that its a bad driver, but not really ideal in this situation either.

Lastly, the size of the driver itself. An 8" is already pushing the limit, as far as fitting in the door card. A 9 may need some door card modifications to really get it working.

Is there any ET on when these could "potentially" be done and ready to sell?

Not as of yet. There's been a new development with a new potential tweeter that might allow us to widen our selection of midbass drivers. They're being mailed to me and we'll see how they perform. I have a few ideas but we'll see what develops.

I will not be rushing this.

There will be some delays right now. Steven has ordered some new drivers for more testing, but is also out of town right now, so this is on hold for a little bit. The new tweeter he found should be worth the wait, and it may allow some very interesting choices in midbass options.

Info will be coming as it becomes available, but I dont think he will be back in town until the weekend.
