I’m gauging to see if there is any interest in a heated mirror setup for the 01-04 Tacos. This will only work on the larger style mirrors. The setup with be 99% plug and plug with only one wire to tap. The mirrors and switch are Toyota parts. The switch will be a used but gone through and tested 4Runner defrost switch. It can be installed to the left of the steering wheel if you don’t have a diff lock(non TrD) or under the radio. I have recently made and installed one in my truck and thus far has been working great. I’ve attached a few pictures of the one I made for mine however I added in puddle lights which I may have as an option. I also would have mirrors already modified and painted for a easy bolt on to go along with the kit. This however would require a core of your old mirrors. I’ll go into more details if there is enough interest. Here’s a few pics I’ll get more it’s all I have at the moment.

Yeah I couldn’t stand scrapping off the ice or wiping off the drew so I could see.
I used them today to clear off ice and it took only seconds.

As for colors I’m only doing the mirrors in SEM trim black.

I’d be interested, but I have a 2000. Could they be made to work on my truck?

    You’d need 2001-2004 mirror housings.

I have a pair of 01 power mirrors that I would likely part with if you’re interested.
shoot me a PM if so.

I bought some fancy replacement mirrors from a member here that have blinkers and puddle lights built in, but they don’t have defrost. OP, I’m very interested in learning how to build this into my new mirrors if your parts would work.

What he said but the good thing is that they are a direct bolt on. If interested I have one set of mirrors I can modify for a simple plug and play install.

As for a price point not sure depends on the interest but I was thinking somewhere in the $350 range without the modified mirrors and $550 with the mirrors. If you send back a working set of black only factory only mirrors as a core to get a refund of $100. This way I can have mirrors ready to go for others.

Again not set in stone just seeing how many would be interested. Also the puddle lights would not come with either unless it’s requested as it adds more complexity to the install.
Let me know what you guys think. As of right now I have enough parts to build two left of the steering wheel and one under the radio setup. Also one set of factory mirrors on hand to be modified.

As long as the glass is the factory size it will work. I think I know what housings your talking about.

Can you explain how the relay works here? I have a set of 4Runner mirrors I bought to do exactly this, but instead of the runner button I bought a power folding mirror switch from a Land Cruiser that integrates with the adjustment switch.

If you want to use that switch you would need to modify the button to a momentary button. This would involve opening the switch. I believe there is a write up in the second gen section. The second thing is you would need to run a relay delay if you wanted them to turn off after a set time.

Using the runner switch has a delay but can also be pushed again to turn them off as the mirrors don’t need very long to clear.

So your system has them on as long as the defrost button is pushed in

All 01-02 4runners come standard with heated mirrors. A used OEM Toyota set can be had $80+ for a full assembly L+R. wire them up to your defrost button.

this is a great late model mirror upgrade for your 1st gen tacoma.

When pressed once to turn them on it will stay on for about 15min but if you press the switch again you can cancel and turn them off.

Oh is there some internal logic to the 4Runner defrost switch that has a timer feature?

    Makes sense, and smart really.
I see alot of vehicles with bubbled tint on the back window. Could be because the defrost is left on and doesn't have that timer feature.

Can you break down the parts and price?
I'm trying to figure where the 550.00 is coming from.
