I want a set of black ones. Will this offset mean more likely to rub than the ones currently available ?

Pretty much always, the further away from stock the more likely you are to rub with upsized tires. These are both wider from bead to bead but also more offset so they are going to stick out about an inch further than what is currently available. In lieu of all of that, are you a serious commit on a set of black or would you like to wait? :playball:

Would someone mind breaking this down all Barney the Dinosaur style for someone that's completely ignorant about wheels? :tinfoilhat:

What's the real difference between 17x8.5 and the 17x9s? Is it in appearance only? I LOVE the Ray10s in the matte gunmetal, I just want to make sure I get the right size for my needs.

I'll either be running 265/70/r17 C-rated KO2s, or if I decide to regear (likely not, at this point) I'd go 285/75/r17. This is for a 3rd Gen DCSB with a 2.6" lift.

I don’t know much, so hopefully someone who knows more can chime in.
The difference between 17x8.5 and 17x9 is only the .5” with.
But the big difference of the regular SCS Ray 10 17x8.5 and the new one which is the one the want to get a feeling for how many people would buy Ray 10 17x9 with a deep dish look and the same backspace as the F5.

Plenty of people have a hard time when it comes to widths/backspacing/offset. Ok, so with the 8.5 vs 9, the 9" rim is a 1/4" wider on both sides of the rim compared to the 8.5. Bead to Bead the tire mounting surface is 1/2" wider. The bigger difference in the current R10 and the one this thread is about is the much more aggressive offset. Pushing the wheel a full inch further outboard on the truck and can cause issues with clearing when turning and articulating because the wheel is in a position much wider than the truck was originally engineered for.

Check out this offset calculator, playing around with one of these will help you further. If you are planning for 265s and MAYBE one day going to a 285, i recommend not going wider than the currently available Ray 10's width of 8.5". Looks like crap and leaves the wheel exposed without any rubber to protect it against rocks/curbs/civics.

I want to be in, but it sounds like Ray10’s might be better for me. My truck is pretty stock right now and I don’t have any plans coming up to lift...or cut...haha. Please remove me from the lift. I’ll have to go get on the Ray10 list!

After some research think am going to pass and go for the standard Ray 10's.
    Love the looks for sure.

    Thank you!

That's how I was thinking this would work, but seeing the popularity of this new wheel I thought I might be missing something. I would prefer the narrower wheel for my uses.

That said, if a set of the 8.5 17" matte gunmetal Ray10s is available anywhere I'm definitely in!

I love the look of a deeper dish wheel so this sounds great... but, at the moment I'm not really planning a lift or chop.
In everyone's opinion, does that mean I should not attempt this new Ray 10 and stick with what is already available?
    I think that's what I'm reading... sadly.

I think with stockish size tires and little or no lift you'll be happier with and served better by any of the SCS standard offset wheels.
