I have a 3rd gen and I haven't had issues with gear hunting like may have noted. I created a very informal survey to try and find what may be causing the gear hunting. I suspect that increased elevation and driving speed are to blame but maybe it's something else. Here is a quick multiple choice survey I created. I'll graph the results and post them here.

If I missed anything or you see any errors, please let me know so I can correct the survey.

Lol. It's the way the ECU/TCU is programmed... I like the scientific lab experiment poll though.

Subjective. That's it. The way a person drives and what a person expects from the throttle response is what makes a person think a car drives worse or better than the next person.
Does our truck up shift to 5th gear while I'm doing 35 on an uphill? hell friken yes it does. does it brother me? Eh. Like 5 out of 10. Are there "fixes" for it? Yep. What are they? Ovtune. Pedal commander. ECT button all the time. Shiftsensepro. Buy a different truck.

First question and last question are conflicting. If Gear hunting is not a problem for you then the last question should allow for n/a.

Sure, this is super subjective. That's why I called it an informal survey and not a study or even research. Asking people for their opinions is subjective.

So far I've been very surprised by the responses.

We already know what the "issue" is.

took the survey. On my 2016 AT Sport DCSB 4x4, the gear hunting is the ONE issue I've never had, CC works great as well.

I'm in. I don't have gear hunting issues and I drive all sorts of speed ranges.

Something about the Sport. We 3 drive a Sport and neither of us have any shifting issues. This is why everyone wants a scooped hood.

My 2016 was gear hunting all the time. Literally preferred the way my 1st gen drives. Ended up selling the 16 for a raptor. Still have my 02

ha! yeah never had it, updated the ECU to 04B04 w/ tech-stream(to get on the latest tune), still have yet to have any shifting issues and after 4.5 years now, I can't imagine I'll have any.

I have a manual transmission and a skewp! Sometimes my programming goes all wonky and I hunt for gears, if I take part in the survey, is my data valid? Also I didn't study for the test, will that be a problem?

I like the enthusiasm. I imagine this would skew the results more than they are already.

I live where 20mph winds are common and the speed limit is 75mph. The truck I test drove HAD to hunt because it couldn't overcome wind resistance.
