Im looking to get some new gears for my truck. 4.56 to be exact and would like to do lockers while im at it. its for a 2017 trd offroad 4x4. The few shops ive talked to want $3k+ does anyone have any shops that they recommend that will do under 2k? I live in Vail but can travel.

If you are able to do it yourself check out ECGS prebuilt diffs. Even ordering those may cut the cost of install at a shop. Worth investigating.

$3k = $970 (locker), $500 (gears), possibly another $500 if you freshen up wheel and carrier bearings. 50% profit on parts isn't a bad deal on their end or your end.

do it yourself, ECGS does great work on drop in units, or do it ALL yourself and save even more, i did.

also find an ebay seller who will cut you a deal, that's what i did.

Don't buy the parts for an independent install unless you get it in writing the independent shop will install supplied parts. Shops want the whole deal so they can get max profit. If @thefatkid can't do them ECGS is probably the best way to go unless you have plenty of cash for RSG or Slee - just my experience. I'm 100% in the @thefatkid corner. Did mine. Completely up and up and hands down the best.

I went with ECGS and spent $2200 for gears and a rear locker. With both lockers and gears it would have been about $3k and you would still have to swap the 3rd members yourself.

The only gears available are the 3rd gen tacomas are 4.88 and Nitro just released 5.29s last month. 4.88 are the go to for 33" tires and general use. The two people that I have found that can do it is @thefatkid and Slee offroad. Crawlertech wasnt interested unless it was a solid axle Jeep for the most part.

4 wheel parts sells and installs gears. I just purchased gears, locker, install during their big sale, less than anywhere else for just gears and its warrantied.

    What?!? No.

4.10 with 33” will get you basicly back to stock.
4.56 is 33-35” or if ya want that much more power then the 4.88

For a 2nd Gen ya. But the 3rd gen has double overdrive gears.

This is why no one will make 4.10 or 4.56 for us.

People are only reporting about 200-300rpm increase at 70mph in 6th.

This is the main reason I personally went with 5.29s.

Do a search for the 4.88 mega thread.

EDIT: the final drive ratio for the 2nd gen in 5th with 3.73 was 0.71. For the 3rd gen with 3.91 it’s 0.69 in 5th and 0.58 in 6th. Also remember than the manual 3rd gens come with 4.30s
