Hey guys, I am trying to help out a GF of mine. She has a 2000 4Runner 2WD 4Cyl. The stock tire size is 225/75/15 with 3.94 gears. It's lifted with 33x12.50x15 on it and the thing is just a slug. I want to look in to re-gearing it but am not sure what gears would be best. Its 2wd so no wheeling. Just looking to get some power and MPG back. What would get it back close to the stock performance 4.10, 4.56 or 4.88? what would be best. TIA for your help

So your suggesting 4.88s then? Like I said, just trying to help out a gf & pick up some MPG & deliverability on the HWY

Yes... Though with the manual trans you could probably get by with 4.56 ratio. 4.10's wouldn't be worth the cost or effort.

My Taco: 2.7L auto trans original tires 225/75R15 3.91 gears. Now: 285/75R16 tires and 4.88 gears. For my uses (primarily a daily driver / weekend toy) this is the best setup. The drive-ability feels like the OE setup in acceleration, mpg's etc.

IMO - you couldn't go wrong with knuckledusters 3rd member - should be a 4 hour (max) job to swap out the pumpkins
