Gear shift lever stiff ocassionally, now free moving & not changing gears

2013 Tacoma 4X4 long bed Auto transmission
From everything I've read on this site, I'm guessing that the cable is now broken. I am NOT a mechanic so will need to have it repaired. Can someone give me an estimate as to how much it might cost me? I live in the Cincinnati area.
I have a feeling that the last time it became difficult to shift that I used too much force to get the lever moving. I am able to start the truck so suspect transmission is in Park.

Jumped under the truck and have someone move the gear shifter and see if the linkage moves. You’ll know real quick if the cable is broken.
