So this morning my gear shifter knob came loose for some reason . I tightened it down . I’m confused how it got loose the boot wasn’t twisted . Should I get a new knob or add some kind of glue to the treads to keep from coming loose again . Also noticed that the leather material is starting to become sticky .. first I was thinking maybe it was from my hands … I cleaned it and still noticing it …thanks

I've never put anything on the threads of the shifter knob. I guess blue loctite wouldn't hurt though?

The leather becoming sticky is more of an age and exposure to the sun than anything. They do make kits where you can replace the boot. Quick search showed this on Etsy.

The knob is installed either at port or during PDI I think, so maybe it wasn't tightened down all the way. The shifter is attached to the transmission on the MT, so it sees all the engine and drivetrain vibrations and is more likely to loosen.

What happens if you wipe down the shift knob with a leather cleaner like Meguiars?

Some blue loctite wouldn’t hurt as mentioned. And yea stickiness comes from wear/tear/grease. Take a good interior detailed with a bristle brush and gently agitate and wipe clean.
