Looking for some help. I’m thinking that the shop may have put in the wrong differential. According to dealer parts and the door jamb plate (A04A) it should be the 8”, 3.73 (3-727) open.

I’m trying to decipher the only tag on the new diff.

The issue I’m having is that the transmission just seem to be wound up when going down the road.
    Thanks

If you're not in four wheel drive, the gearing in the front diff won't affect anything.

Maybe @Muddinfun can explain how to figure this out by
    Tire/driveshaft ratio.

I know you can get the rear diff ratio this way.
You should also be able to do it with the front as well.
But I think there are a few more steps.
Maybe all 4 of wheels off ground in Neutral and turning the front tires while in 4WD.

Again, Muddin probably knows how to do it.
Maybe he’ll jump in with a good idea.

The front ratio doesn't matter when in 2WD. If they put the wrong ratio in and you put it in 4WD, the truck won't move easily, since the front and rear tires will be working against each other.

If the tranny sounds wound up, it may be low on fluid.

Reading the OPs 2 other posts, there's "transfer case fluid" all over the bottom of the truck. It's going to be interesting to see what the shop has to say.

I’d be pretty adamant that hat it is covered under the 12m/12k mile warranty.

Although I am curious as to why it need a front diff?
Was it victim of trail damage or ‘normal’ failure?

It was most definitely driver failure. My daughter drove it for a few bad snow storms and left it in 4wd on hardball and at highway speed to and from town. An expensive learning curve on her part. With the complete shoulder reconstruction just a few weeks ago there was no way I could do the work myself.

I know many will say not to use the dealership mechanics but the price was the same. I went with a local shop with a good reputation, so I was told.

Most of the failures I've seen involving running on pavement in 4X4 were with the transfer case. I've never known of the front diff failing when doing that. I've read of driveshafts and U-Joints breaking, but not the front diff.

Thank you. I’ll keep an eye on it as well and have it checked.
