Hey guys and gals, new member here!
Recently picked up 2 1st gen tacomas. Working on moving the drive train over to the1 with a pristine frame and body.
My question, the gear ratio is different between the 2 as well as 1 having manual hubs that I want and the other having the ADD system that I don't want. I would like to keep the 4:10 ratio but that is in the axel that has the AUTO hubs Can I simply swap the ring and pinion into the manual housing and call it a day or is it more involved?

The rear third member just swaps in directly. The front you just need to lock the ADD collar with a hose clamp. Look it up. Then you swap in the whole differential. You don't have to touch the gears.

I have seen and researched that method. I'm not a huge fan of hose clamps lol. I have 2 complete front diffs figured I'd use the best of both trucks. The truck I'm going to be driving I'd like to use the 4:10 gears with the non add diff. Is it possible?
    Thank ya for the reply

Sure, anything is possible, but you'd have to resetup the gears. It's not just a matter of swapping the parts over. It will cost a few hundred for a gear shop to do it. Hose clamp works great.

Why don't you want the ADD system? Mine works great :notsure:

I could go through and get it working I'm sure. The PO removed the engine, when doing so the electrical and vac system was compromised to the ADD system. I was a fan of it in my 4runner.
Seeing how I have manual everything on this truck I figure why not go 1 step further and make it complete manual everything.

Now, I been doing some you tube studying and parts break down searching. The difference I'm seeing, and please correct me if I'm out in left field, is that the driver side of the front clamshell is where the major difference is. The housing is different to accommodate the add system.
What if I swapped the clamshell housings and cv shafts as these appear different also.
Bolt patterns look same from diff to diff though

Better keep researching. The ADD actuator is on the passenger side sub shaft. There are vacuum and electric operated versions of it. I think it's possible to change the stub shafts out. Look for the 4wd conversion threads.

Well that makes sense as to why it looked upside down in the drawing. Passenger side indeed! That thread you linked is super helpfull! Thank you

You can remove the add stub shaft and replace it with the manual hub stub shaft.

You will also need the spindles from the manual hub trucks or you will need to replace the wheel bearings you have

Seems pretty straight forward. Already have everything for a front end rebuild for the manual (non add) truck that came with it when I purchased. And as d33pt pointed out now I don't have to dig into gears or anything.

That's the start of the truck. Dragged it home with the diesel jeep a week ago.
Might make a build thread, who knows. I wanted to with my turbo e30 but never got around to it
