GearOne Performance Tune

It's just bad form dude, from a professional standpoint. Let one of the customers ask, not the competition.

 

@OVTune has a Tacoma he uses. Why would you let these people touch it? Because it’s cheaper?

 

It was shown in the MT thread that the stock tune on @luminous truck didn't misfire. He was the only one posting logs so far. I have verified that mine doesn't also. I'm not plunking down $$$ to cause an issue. Would I like more consistent driveability? Sure. Is it worth it to be stuck in a queue of mystery releases? Nope.

Will you address rev hang? Engine braking as been consistently requested? You have yet to even mention either of them?

You're doing nothing but convincing me that I don't want to bother with your solution.

 

Prior to knowing who the 3rd Party was that created the GearOne tune, I personally think Matt has every right to ask the questions he did given that prior to 1.03 the OVTune weren't protected from theft. I presume now that Matt knows who the 3rd Party is and it was suggested the two know each other that those questions are no longer relevant for a public forum. I suspect they'll likely be comparing notes with one another offline.

 

did i miss where gearone addresses either of these issues or promised no misfires?

what is your goal here? you cant possibly be saying that the gearone option is a better option with absolutely ZERO information on the tune.
almost seems as if you are stirring the pot just for fun ..

 

He has every right to ask, that is correct. We, as potential customers, also have the right to witness their choice of questioning and determine the level of professionalism - or un-professionalism that these guys exhibit in a public forum! So far, Gear One is way ahead...

 

I said that I would be willing to work with a local shop. I have followed all 130 pages of the OVT MT thread hoping for decisively positive results. I generally have faith in internet / community solutions. OVT is not doing that any favors for me in this case. I have not said that my opinion should be forced on to others. If you want to call that pot stirring, feel free.


Edit: Since this post just got a new like and this thread is active again, it would be fair for me to add:

-- The TSB tunes showed up about 6mo after this post which made a big difference in the Taco. The TSB tune was enough for me to not care about aftermarket tunes.

-- But then, OVT Version 1.05 (released 10mo after this post) added a lot of features that help out the MT Tacos as well as the FOB tune. That was enough attention for me to get happy with the work and order the OVT kit.

@OVTune is not the competition, he's the pioneer for tuning these trucks. @GearOneMarc is the competition to OVTune and has provided very little data and specifics regarding this tune.

 

disagree with the bad form comment. this is an open internet forum where we all want both Q's & A's, not holding back on either.

 

I am sure now the "3rd Party Tuner" has been revealed(and he seems heavily involved the car tuning world), OV knows who he is. Weather that's good or bad...not sure. But I am always welcome to see other options available. Only helps for better tweaking to the end user.

 

Well I'll stick with OVTune, even though he broke my heart last night (snif snif ). There's something to be said for community engagement and at least some discussion about the process and what is being done.
Good for the competition, though... hope it spurs a Friday release!

 

My post was from a business perspective, not a consumer. Sure, as a consumer I want all the dirt I can get on something. Two competitor's asking each other questions in an open forum? You bet! From a business perspective however, posting stuff on the internet, especially direct questions to a competitor, will never end well. Never. At best you will not gain any customers by posting in a competitor's thread. At worst you can lose customers. This is the internet man, where a 28 year old broke with no job kid living in his mom's basement can pose as a Tacoma Pro owner and troll to his heart's content! And, we will never know!

@no vtec 4me Please keep us updated how the tunes handles the learning or if it was disabled. How many miles are you running with the tune and is it MT or AT?

 

How does that saying go?....any publicity is good publicity....does that apply here?
