I will for sure keep you guys updated. Id love to see this thread make a turn for the better, and since I'm the only one that can give real world feedback on the tune I'll do what i can to make that happen.

My truck is a '17 automatic, only modifications are a 3" lift and 33" tires. So far i have 350-400 miles on the tune. Im not sure how many miles the learning process takes on a stock truck but like i said, i was told it will not be an issue. So far i have noticed absolutely no change in the transmission behavior whatsoever. I am in the middle of calculating my mpg over a full tank of gas to see if there is any change there, so expect to see that update in another couple days. If theres any specific questions you guys have as far as how the truck drives, shifts, etc. feel free to ask and ill answer anything i can!

I would say if it doesn’t relearn and stays tuned as it left the shop I don’t see why hand held tuners will be far behind.

Ive tried to be as complete as i can with what I've said so far, but maybe condensing everything will be more clear. My review is completely unbiased, i would gain nothing from lying to you guys. Remember, I'm just a customer like everyone else on here. Seeing some competition in the tuning market is something i was excited about, and really think will make things better for all of us.

The tune did a few things to the truck, ill start by addressing the improved throttle response, added power, and shift of power to lower rpms. These improvements are most noticeable in city/ around town driving. The second i pulled out of GearOne's parking lot i could feel a significant difference in the way the truck accelerated. The power came on quicker, but still very smooth and had me up to cruising speed in no time. It accelerated from a stop much easier than before, none of that sluggish off-the-line feeing. The truck overall just feels faster, theres no better way to explain it. Its still a little v6 midsize truck, but its undeniably better than it was stock. Like someone else noted, people are dropping $300-$400+ on cold air intakes that are essentially doing nothing so the value is here in performance alone.

My favorite part of the tune, and my main reason for agreeing to get the tune was the improved shifting. With the 33's you definitely really start to notice the shifting issues that so many people complain about on here. Going up even slight inclines i would frequently look down to see my tach at 4000rpm's not willing to shift into a higher gear. On the highway i would always find the truck shifting between 4th and 5th, and essentially never going into 6th. I joked with Marc that after they installed the tune my truck saw 6th gear for the first time since the tires went on. What i have now is a truck that has been living between 1750-2250 rpms through most of my commute and not down shifting every time i hit a small incline. It feels like it wants to be in that rpm range, which is something i couldn't say about the truck before. I spend a lot of time at 75-80 mph and it still will sit in 6th gear at 2000 rpms or so no problem. It drives and shifts just like a truck should, even with the bigger tires. It now feels how i wish it would have came from the factory. Im sure this will help my gas mileage and just lead to an overall healthier truck which I'm very happy about.

As far as stuttering or misfiring i have never had an issue with my truck with or without the tune. The truck has always driven very smooth and feels just as good with the tune. Ill keep an eye out for that, but doubt anything will happen now if it hasn't already.

    great, thanks for the feedback.

here's a specific question for you:
how does the VVT come on around 3500rpm? with stock, it's pretty much off then on. and that kinda sucks. with OV's latest, depending on some driving factors, it tends to be very gradual from about 2.5k up. how's it do on your tune?

Ill have to take notice to that next time I'm in the truck and see if its even something i can feel. Its not something I've ever really noticed in the truck previously to be honest.

Something i think i will try to do is make some videos of the gauges while driving like OVtune has done to show the shifting behavior of the truck. I don't have a great set up for doing this but it'll be better than trying to explain something so subjective.

got it. but that's interesting you haven't noticed that VVT surge. so many posts about it and that has been a big part of OV's focus for corrections. i wonder if you have a different factory base tune without that issue. anyway, thanks and any more info is welcome (and invited).

Why does a Customer need to ask? Just because he offers a tune he can’t ask anything? Whatever happen to people pulling together for the better of the 3rd gen community? OVTune asked the same questions I would have asked and more.
I don’t see any issues here when it comes to being professional.

But OVtune didn’t do this, that’s why his tune is so expensive. You need to buy the hardware from the company that actually DID do this work. (Well ovtune re-sells the hardware). This guys (or you) could simply buy that hardware and write your own tune, that’s what ovtune did. I’m not discrediting the work OVtune out into this, as it’s a ton of work, but he didn’t crack anything, he buys and resells a box that does this.

There is more than one tool out there that can dump the contents of the ECU, but that alone doesn't do much. You can even readout the ECU with techstream. Everything inside the ROM file that is changed was done in house.
I also do not just buy and resell, as the tactrix cables are custom coded by tactrix for me, not just an off the self unit. Same with the flashing software.

So I can’t buy a tactix module, download the ecu in a binary file, (decode and modify it, which is an absolute ton of work) and use that same tactrix module to upload it?

Point someone made is OVtune cracked the ECU, They did not, they use a different vendors product to download and upload the tune, which is the “cracking”. OVtune modifies that tune, which as I said is a ton of work and where there IP is.

The whole definition of "cracking" has been warped by mainstream media. Being able to download a file and upload is not cracking. It's anything but that. What OVtune did was decipher the hardware base file that Toyota used to program the ECU and manipulate it to do what he wanted it to do. Call it what you want but he did us all a favor with his tune.

Correct. When I say "crack" I'm implying the code/gibberish files that's on the ECU. He has deciphered/cracked/ whatever you wanna call it...Found out how it works, and changed it successfully. Above my pay grade.
