    Experience is worth a lot!

I just went with the stuff ECGS suggested. I just didn't have anyone else to tell me otherwise that I trusted more. The only thing they said absolutely not to use was Royal Purple.

I hate all of you. Still sitting in the garage and going to have to wait even longer since I am driving 4 hours back home next weekend. Ill knock it out there so I can properly break them in.

x2 went with the Lucas 85w 140 that ECGS recommended. I did have Royal Purple in there for the first 120k (before regearing) though with no issues. But once I regeared, switched it over

The break in period is going to annoy the shit out of me. After the inital heat cycles it says to drive no longer than 50 miles with out stopping to let the oil cool.

If I take a trip that is 150 miles that is 3 stops to let the oil cool down both ways. Does anyone know how long it would take for the oil to cool before you can continue on?

Oh well it is what is! I mean can't spend this much money and not brake them in correctly. I am heading to my GF's sister graduation 150 miles away next weekend so I will just deal with it. I will set it up so when I get back it is time to change the oil and be done.

What's everybody's thoughts on the Eaton Truetracs for offroad? I do most of my driving on road, admittedly...probably a 70/30 split so I figured a truetrac out back would cure some of my open diff woes.
I was originally considering a Detroit Locker, but I hear they're a little unpredictable on the pavement, especially in the northern wastes up here when the snow starts setting in. Anybody wanna weigh in on that?

Might not get my truck back today! Ugh so annoyed. Dropped it off Monday at 9:00 Am. They didn't even start it until late Tuesday. To then tell me that they are not going to try an reuse my front bearings at 3:57 pm (had the truck for 30 hour to find that out). So Then I needed to call East coat gear supply who had previously told me I only needed one master hit and one mini kit.... What they failed to mention is that the bearings are pressed on and all 4 would need to be carefully removed or I would need new bearings anyway. The mini didn't come with any bearings for the front.

Luckily ECGS were able to ship out the bearings the same day, and send it via next day shipping. Of course the damn things didn't show up to the place until 2:15pm despite being our for delivery since 7:00 am. Then Today I call them at noon for an update... They will call me back.... hour and a half later. I call again, they to tell me that the back is done, and they didn't realize they needed to build up the front so they could mark the spot for the ARB so that they could then drill the hole. He said the good news is he isn't going to charge me anymore for the labor. I am paying $1000 for them to install two gears and the front locker. So now I am supposed to call them again at 4 pm (it is 2:42 pm now) to find out if I need to get yet another ride back from and too work. - End Rant

ECGS told me that the mini kit is for experienced installers only. Looks like you either got one that isn't that experienced or is to lazy :p. Hope it all works out man.

I am not mad at either place just frustrated.

They said they will not even try it because of how easy it is to break them when taking them off. They are definitely experienced and all they do is Drive line stuff and gears. I don't blame them for that or ECGS. I just wished the shop had check on Monday for the bearings and that ECGS had told me that only ordering the mini kit is risky should one of the old bearing brake when being removed I would have needed to order them anyway.

Good to hear you have your gears installed. I want to wait until I get the gears paid for (on a CC now) and a vacation to the Pacific behind me, THEN I can do the gears and lockers installation. Probably be 4 to 6 weeks. My Gears are taking it easy right now (in the box)! Break-in is wise advice, however many folks don't.

Update: Talked to them at 4 they said it was done, but they wanted to double check everything and test drive it before they give it back to me. I told them it's cool and I will just pick it up in the morning. The guy who owns the shop told me that the first 100 miles is the most important. I will be fallowing the break in to the T for the first 500. I will still baby it for another 500 out of precaution.

I can't wait to get it back. I hope it makes a noticeable difference.
