Haha. I have a tendency to do that^. And my mechanic brought up a good point. People get new vehicles from the factory with factory fluid and they don't "break them in" or change the oil for a long ass time. If something's bound to fail it's gonna fail. Not that it's not a bad idea to go easy on em at the start. I think you're correct though sir.

^^This xALOT. Breaking in gears started long ago...before they were "lapped" together in the factory. So one was essentially lapping there gears during break-in.

All gearsets come lapped already so no need for break-in at all. If it gives you peace of mind go for it by all means.

I think the nervousness stems from ECGS's warranty stating that any problems due to an improper break in can be seen and thus it will void the warranty. Better to be safe than out $2500.

Just dropping in this piece to say hi and eat some

I will eventually lock my front but dropping the front diff sucks and I don't want to do it again anytime soon.

Indeed. I still plan on breaking them in somewhat by not wheeling it til after the second oil change (note: not wheeling can be as dangerous as not breathing at times, but it can be done). And I decided to go with valvoline synthetic from the start. It's only $12 a quart compared to Toyotas $20+ Synthetic or the almost $30 synthetic BG. Hopefully all will be well..after all it's just oil right? Not like putting peanut butter in there

Ill be wheeling through the break in. Nothing insane just unimproved forest service roads. I also live about 10 minutes from them though :p. So by time I am at camp it will be time to let it cool.

Just dropped the truck off tonight with my buddy. Hope to have it back by the beginning of next week, if not sooner. So excited I can hardly wait :goingcrazy:
And I also changed my mind last minute on gear oil after I was able to find some Lucas 85-140 conventional. Just like ecgs recommended :D

So when I said "4.56 gears is like adding 50HP without opening the hood", was I about right?

Unfortunately things aren't looking good again this year :pout: there is a big AZ convoy in the works for next year tho including my dad's new truck which should be built by then

It sure as hell feels like it so yea I'd say so! :) I threw on an AFE Intake as well and it feels like a whole new beast!

I am at 430 miles. So I will be changing my front, rear and transfer case oil early next week! Almost done with the brake-in. I have been driving pretty normal though, so besides babying the first 200 miles. Still can't wait to not have to worry about it for another 25-30 thousand.

Maybe I don't appreciate my gears lol, should have stuck with the stock gears with 33s until I went up to 35s, the 4.56s really help with towing a trailer though.

:yay: Just got my 97 back!!! Feels so good to drive it again after a week of driving my old 2011 wrx that my buddy i sold it to let me drive while my truck was getting done :D. but seriously. I missed my truck. Feels sooooo much better. Pretty sure my speedometer is way off cuz it said i was doin 50 in 3rd gear but i was only keeping up with traffic in a 35. Was also going a speed on my way home that felt like something I would've had to drive in 2nd so that's good :rasta: ONLy bad thing is I was correct on the assumption that I have a cracked manifold so a new header is next in line:hungry: the four banger needs all the power she can get

I have 150 miles on them so far :D. Gotta say I am sooo happy I made the purchase. Feels like a new truck! I haven't driven any different other than letting the diff cool down. Basically jumped the gears up one. 3rd feels like 2nd used to, 4th feels like 3rd did etc...
