Gears and master install kit

I'm completely new to regearing, so if this is a stupid question; I appoligize.

I ordered pre-assembled front and rear gears (5.29 Nitros) from ECGS.
If the gears are coming assembled, do I need a master install kit?

I wouldn't think so; but one of the local 4x4 shops told me "make sure you have a master install kit or we wont install it"

The install kit is to install the actual gears in the rear 3rd member or the front clamshell. If you are buying the assembled 3rd member and/or clamshell, no, you don't need an install kit, it's already been used and installed.

You need an install kit if you are buying gears alone. A master install kit includes new bearings and a mini install kit does not include bearings and you reuse your old ones.

 

That’s what I thought.

I just thought it was odd that my local shop, who was aware of the 3rd member and clamshell being assembled, stressed having the master install kit.
