To answer some of the gear questions.....

    Rear Lockers

3rd gens - RD132 for the rear if you do not have a factory e-locker (ie manual tranny and/or offroad models), if you have a manual tranny and/or offroad model, you will need RD232 for your rear locker.

2nd gens need 129 for the rear (if you have an open diff). If you have a factory e-locker you will need to replace with an open diff in order to swap to an ARB locker

    Front Lockers

All 3rd gens will require the RD111 locker because all stock gears are 3.91 or greater.

All 2nd gens without e locker will require the 121 locker as posted on nitro gear website: http://www.nitro-gear.com/Toyota-8-CS-8-4-Nitro-Gear-Package-p/gptaco05plus-select.htm

Nitro and all other gear vendors are correct on their locker recommendations. If you are interested in finding out which locker you need for your truck, look at the tech section on nitro gears website (the above examples are from their gear package pages)

WHEN IN DOUBT/YOU FIND A PART NUMBER DISCREPANCY, USE THE GEAR VENDORS LOCKER RECOMMENDATION. THEY KEEP THIS INFO UP TO DATE. ARB DOES NOT HAVE THE TIME TO KEEP TRACK OF EACH VENDORS GEAR THICKNESS AND MAY GIVE YOU THE WRONG PART NUMBER!!!

what would the install cost roughly? I know it varies drastically. $500? $1500? $3000?

Removal and installation of the rear is about 1.5-2hrs, removal and installation of the front is about 2-3hrs. Gear set up for the rear can vary widely depending on what is done, ie locker. Rear typically takes 2-4hrs for gear set up. Front is about the same, 2-6hrs for gear set up. Then if you want the installer to wire or plumb anything for the lockers, that's more time as well. So in all, without plumbing, the minimum time to do this job for an installer will be 7.5hrs. This is if they get pinion depth, preload, backlash perfect on the first shot, which is very unlikely. Now take these numbers to typical tax paying shop rates and you'll see that it's not cheap. It's not an easy job neither. It's difficult enough setting up the gear for the rear axle, the front is 10x harder. You can save cash by doing the easy part, removal and installation.
