Hoping to start the progress towards a trailer soon. So I would like to have more power for that.

You'll probably be happier with 456, even 488 and 35s sucks imo. You are more than welcome to throw your tires on my truck and drive it around

    You have 4.88's or 4.56's?

Forgive me if I am misunderstanding, 4.56 meet factory ratios with 285's.

If I want more power, something I am looking into, wouldn't I want 4.88's?

I would be happy to test the 4.88's on 285's and while towing, if possible.

imo no. 410/430 would be more of a factory gear for 33s, 456 being a lower ratio gear for them. Pulling a trailer and 456 is probably the right choice. Pick whatever you think it right for your needs but my experience with 488 and 35s was a bad combo, maybe if I was towing it would make sense but everyday I would hate it.

I was just basing my information from the chart.

So then 4.56 with 33's possibly maybe going to 35's one day?

I was looking at Peter's build and he said that towing with 4.56 gears and 35's was perfect. He said there was more power too.

Interesting. I am looking at it again, and I do not see anywhere to select your transmission:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc

For kicks, I reached out to ECGS and this is the reply I just got:

"I believe it to be personal preference. The majority would do 4.56, I personally would do 4.88. With 35’s it is no question 4.88. If you highway commute speeds at 65 plus the majority of the time I would do 4.56. If you run around town and backroads 55 or below majority of the time I would do 4.88. I’m sure that does not help. I think you would be happy with either one, either choice is way better than stock."

Do not get 4.88's unless you are 100% sure you are putting 315's on.. 4.88's and 33's/34's is horrible

Well, I spoke with @LoadedTaco this morning and confirmed that I can go pick up the HC rear bumper Saturday morning! :woot:

I cannot wait to get my hands on that beast. I am really looking forward to having this installed and I think it will really transform the rig. It will take everything in me to not just slap it on this weekend. However, I need to see how bad the bumper is. I know it has Line-X coating, but I know that stuff likes to flake and chip. I am working on locating a powdercoating and hopefully get a good price on the bumper being done. While I am at it, I will also get the dirt designs shock bucket mounts done at the same time.

In anticipation for the install, I have spent the last couple of days researching install and how-to threads. It should be relatively straight forward, however, I want to make sure I do it right as you really don't get another chance to cut up the bedsides. Here is what I found:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-clearance-rear-bumpers.454052/#post-13360303

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ance-bumper-installation-step-by-step.324195/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/boden-build-2015-dclb-4x4.362640/page-4#post-10685796

After doing the research, I just purchased a few small things that I do not have in my toolbox that should greatly help the install:

    upload_2018-2-1_13-16-57.jpg

I still am not sure which adhesive will work best, but one of the threads linked above mentioned the CA Thick adhesive and my buddy @GHOST SHIP recommended the 3M adhesive. We will find out and I will let everyone know.

I also will be picking up a new drop hitch since the 5 and 1/2" or 6" (I forget) will no longer do the job. Again, in my research, I saw that Tyler uses a 8" drop with 3" of lift and Peter uses a 10" drop with 35's:

    (Tyler)
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/pelfreybilt-off-road.215316/page-286#post-13017022

    (Peter)
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/loaded-tacos-build.259438/page-42#post-8996628

In the interest of being Bro as Fuck AND possibly/MAYBE going 35's PLUS having the shackle flip and sitting a little higher than 3" in the rear, I am getting the 10" drop:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I5VU8S/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A20ELO84GF2ARR&psc=1

Holding off for now since I will not need it until the bumper is installed and I also spent some money today on half of the wife's Valentine's Day present.

Anywho, Peter (LoadedTaco) confirmed with me that he will be giving me everything that you usually get when ordering a bumper from Pelfreybilt. Which is awesome and fantastic. I saw this photo here:

(hence the adhesive and glue screenshot above)

That looks, to me, like a neat and clean install and I wanted to make sure that I get the same stuff on Saturday for my install. Now, I have no idea if they still send that stuff with the bumpers or if Peter decides he is going to use it on his rig, but I reached out to the Pelfreybilt Off-road thread and my buddy Bill aka @Bluegrass Taco hit me up and he will be sending me some of the exact same trim for the install. Thanks again so much Bill!!

I am so anxious and excited to pick up the bumper and get this project going!!

Also, side update about the headlight hoops:

Still waiting to hear from my friend on when his buddy is available. His actual day job is a fabricator for motors, drag cars and trailers. Since it is the off season he is a little busy, but hopefully only a few more weeks until he can squeeze me in!

Also also, I am looking to get the bumper PC'd and installed ASAP as long as the price and quality of work is fair. I am not afraid of being out in the cold for a couple of hours. Then, by spring/early summer I still plan on ordering my ADS extended travel front shocks and installing them once they come in. Install might be slightly delayed as I will likely need to torch off my swaybar and will need @NwiTACO for that.

    Stoked for what's to come!

Blasting and coating that bumper is gonna be pricey, I know a place in Kenosha if that's not to far.
As far as that trim piece, I would go with the 3m.

Thanks man! Kenosha is about 2h 40min from me. I would have to make a day out of it. I wouldn't want to have to drive back to get it..if that's even possible.

I am curious about the CA adhesive. I was thinking 3M too, however..

Yea didn't know how far south you were and it would be about a week to get bumper done.
The CA adhesive is almost the same thing as super glue, permanently permanent, i.e. grinder to remove
3m can be softened and removed if need be.

    Thanks for the info!

This morning I said fuck it and ordered the 10" drop hitch mount and wheel lock lug nuts for mounting the spare to the tailgate (almost forgot about these ). I also forgot about my Amazon points and a gift card from Christmas. Total went from $100 to $15!

So I used VHT Rollbar paint on my front bumper and I love it. And any time I hit something I just hit it with some more VHT and it's good to go.
