My truck literally clears by scraping the plastic weather liner on the opening. I cant lift or put any bigger tires on or it wont fit lol.

I'm just grateful I fit now. First house I had didn't fit because the door was like 6'3" or something ridiculous.

Unfortunately, I don't think that would be enough. I would have to rock donuts like @Brian422 suggested.

I need to take measurements on a few things to figure it out. The conversion would cost a few hundred dollars though; pending what hoist system I go with.

I like the idea of bed bars (obviously I'm biased). It takes a little tweaking to what gear you bring and how you bring it since it's exposed to the elements, but once dialed in, it's awesome.

What's your main reason in keeping the shell? My truck is setup for everything. Its pretty much dialed at this point and i couldn't be happier with it. It lets me wheel hard while still being able to stay off grid for 3 or 4 days with dry storage while keeping the tent low enough that i can fit in garage and load and unload it myself. Granit i am a pretty strong person and younger so i know that's always a consideration. I can shed about 400-450 pounds from the truck in a matter of 30-60 min.

Probably going to study your thread if I get to that point (as always) :anonymous::pccoffee:

Biggest reason is dry storage. I would like to keep it for the winter/wet months.

Main reason for having a cover was it was necessary for the city and parking on the street overnight. It was a great step up from the hard shell tonneau cover I had previously. But it is a nuisance now when trying to plan trips; hence the infrequency of the weekend warrior outings. If I had a system like yours, I would be more inclined to pack up the truck in 30 minutes and roll out.

I like the idea of the roll up/soft cover that works with a bed rack in the event I am heading out on a wet weekend and need the space for dry storage also.

Another benefit is being able to utilize the bed space again without height restrictions. A modular rack where I can pull the center crossmembers to move bigger items would be ideal.

Is that the KB voodoo system?

Mines a victory 4x4 rack. The thing i like about how i have mine setup is it isn't on any tonneae brackets like you see other racks on that make them weaker in my opinion. Mine still bolted straight to bed. I had to find a cover that would bolt to the inside of the bed rails. The rails go perfectly around the mounts for the bed rack. There's about a 1/4 inch gap that i sealed up with weather stripping and rtv (i have 0 leaks) I've been in a severe rain storm with this setup and everything was dry to the bone when i opened it back up. I can still roll the cover up all the way as well and fit big items back there. Ill try to get a pic later of how it mounts

We have exactly what you need, but what you see in that picture is yet another bad copy of our racks.

    Thanks man. Appreciate the link.

Going to have to shop around and see what's best for my needs, budget etc. Keeping the topper for the time being is going to have a say in the budget until I decide if and when to offload.

Been a hell of a day. Went to the girly's house to help her and her dad with her yard project:

    1) Main project was grinding the box elder stump I felled a few weeks back

    2) continue digging the trench for the retaining wall

    3) cut out more buckthorn (she calls it "fuckthorn")

Another reason for this would be that I still want to box the rear frame and add a new crossmember. Pulling the bed would be a MUST.

Having the topper removed already would make that even easier...

    More thinking out loud:

If/when I'm ready to offload the shell, I can take the money and invest in dry storage for an open bed; been considering a Decked system. Only problem is that I'll loose all that bed space with the shell and the Decked system.

Really considering getting some inexpensive bed bars to give this a shot.

    http://www.armortechoffroad.com/2005--2015-Tacoma-4-Rise-Bed-Cross-Bar_p_350.html

Figuring out shell storage is the next hurdle...

Got out in the garage this morning before it got too hot.

    1) Front end bolt check

    2) Cleaned up the front end; removed the swaybar relocation bolts

    3) removed the KING stickers from the reservoirs

    4) installed new blind spot mirrors

Really cleans them up.. change my mind
