We do all this work, and we don't realize what it costs for someone to not know how to do it..

Bro, I was just telling my buddy that it's crazy to think that people who don't do their own work on their cars just come in and go "yep that's reasonable" and just pay it.

    Wild.

I've worked in parts at a Honda dealer for a really long time.
The best way I can explain it to people who come up and tell me service labor is outrageous
is to tell them to "ask yourself how much your time is worth."
I will also say that there are some people who are better off not working on their own vehicle.

And then there are people who try to do a head gasket by only watching a YouTube video from 2015, and not taking the head to get machined :anonymous: thinking sandpaper will work

You don't know how many times I've been asked, "Do you think I can do this myself?"

True. Sometimes the satisfaction of working on your own truck outweighs spending $350 for swapping plugs.

I did do it myself. Sandpaper didn't really work. But drywall sanding block kinda did. :anonymous:

Problem wasnt head gasket, and i didnt want to deal with it, so car sold. But it did run after! So i did something right

Had a memorable conversation with the service rep lol

I'm finished up and he goes "you definitely could save SOME money doing the spark plugs yourself, but they are due for change."

"Yeah, thanks. I ordered a set of 6 for $20."

That's why it is reasonable to them, because they don't work on that stuff. Mine took me about 90 minutes (4 cylinder) and $40 roughly for plugs. For me it's worth doing it myself if I can manage the time and weather I need.

    THIS

My friend barely knows how to change his wiper blades. Nice guy of course..just never really did anything mechanical and doesn't own tools for the stuff etc. For him it's worth paying for the job..plus he has a wife and 2 daughters, they go on all kinds of day trips. That's something that can't have a price put.

I haven't done an oil change in about 20 years myself. It's a pain in the ass to dispose of the used oil in my area, plus if it's cold weather my truck and her SUV won't fit in the garage. For the extra $20 roughly to have it done I save extra time of running around for the disposal, not to mention freezing my ass off in winter.

I echo your statement profusely that some are better off not touching their own vehicle, and some are better off not doing certain tasks even that know how to do some things.

I started getting my skid plates back on today and snapped one of the 12mm bolts that bolt into the chassis. Heading to home Depot..

I had a T&D kit already that I used after extracting the bolt and chased the threads to be safe. New bolt went in like butter.

No sure why my order for spark plugs was cancelled. I received an email when I started operation "bolt extraction" that my order from this morning was cancelled and will be receiving a refund.

Just placed another order with a local stealership. I guess we will see what happens.

    Ugh.
