After playing with the new switches, I realized you can roll the windows down normally or press further down and the auto feature will engage. Swapped the passenger side switch in when I got home.

Cleaned out the oil catch can and threw on the LCA skids.

    @T.Barn

Caught hooked this bastard today. Not entirely sure how I hooked him but he was a mess. He had a hook above his eye that I took care of. Then, he had a jerkbait tangled up in some line that I took care of and scored the jerkbait for my efforts.

Did a bunch of driving this weekend. Stayed straight between the lines.

I've been thinking about changing up the control arms recently. Maybe a good black Friday sale will appear.

    Plans for the weekend:

    - spark plugs
    - fix roof rack lights and relocate to the rear of the front roof rack
    - install rock lights

Gonna have my brother there for help and vise versa.

    Well, 2 out of 3 isn't bad.

The rock lights harness took way longer than I expected; usually how this shit goes.

First up, was repairing the roof rack lights. I bench tested them on Thursday and they worked so I knew it was the harness. I pulled the wiring down this morning first thing and as soon as I brought the harness down from in between the cab and the topper, the issue was found:

    78115DBE-59F7-4054-9251-C1E7BA40ABDF.jpg

Easy fix. Cleaned up the wiring a bit. I'm not sure when I got these heat shrink solder fittings, but the roof rack lights didn't use that. They do now.

Since the old mounting location was pretty much useless when my RTT cover is down, the lights are useless on the driver's side. So I relocated them:

    D8E9F299-7AE9-41B9-9C55-10A2D620E6CA.jpg

    Really happy with that.

Next, I move on finally mounting the new rock lights. I've had these sitting around for 2 years. The old harness still worked after I taped it off and wrapped it around a leg of the slider for a year (?) Not sure. It just had to be extended. I used waterproof deutsh connectors for each light and each section of the harness. This means that if a light goes out, or a section of the harness goes out, only that light or section has to come out. Again, using the waterproof shrink solder fittings.

    C194AE79-BBDD-41AE-A3CE-CCE0FA4024CC.jpg

I only have 6 lights; two of the old ones and 4 of the newer style ones. It was still light outside so it wasn't totally dark:

    E6BEC4B2-04D1-4489-9109-2FDD9A225327.jpg

    Not terrible.

Overall very happy with today and the progress. It was so hot and the heat took my brother out a bit. He's feeling better luckily.

    Good day.

Throw back to when I took the Tacoma to the dealership for the frame coating recall and they cut my old rock light harness. There was also lights missing; at least 4:

Well, the DIY idea went out the window..

    FA5AF1D8-B4A2-49E8-BA9A-72CD7512BD7D.jpg

    Before:

    F74ED6D0-C73E-41A2-8166-BABABC8F9847.jpg

    After with beverage:

    2477F2A4-D853-40E0-8823-208BB351737B.jpg

    TL;DR

I simply can't devote the time and energy to making a DIY panel this clean and nice. I don't have the time nor the tools. As nice as it would be, I just can't justify it at all.

I learned that this weekend making the harness for my rock lights. That took 3-4 hours to get it right and make it simple and effective should a light or a section of the harness easily diagnosable. That's with having the tools and the hard part of wiring the switch, fuse panel, wiring through the firewall etc.

I have a handheld jigsaw from my dad that's probably as old as I am, a drill, drill bits and countersink drill bits. These companies fire out hundreds of panels a week with a CNC machine.

Aluminum might have been a better option to just drill some holes and send it. I probably would have replaced that eventually too.

This swap? Garage door up, pulling the truck out, getting the tools, removing the old panel, putting the new panel in, snapping some pics, putting the tools away and backing her back into the garage? Less than 10 minutes.

I can't justify spending the time with recreating something I can just buy.

Really happy with the Hooke road option. Found it for under $150.
