No shit... might not be so clear to everyone, you know. And yes, it seems obvious to me too but hiding modifications to your vehicle is not good advice to hand out.

    Some stuff here and there....
Im insured thru state farm. They cover me on any accidents off road (I drove off a cliff on a forest road) 100% covered. All my mods are covered and all I need is a pic of them on the truck. I dont know if i pay extra cause tge wife pays the bill but I am covered and have used it with no problem

Yeah, your VIN should have ID'd it as an Off-Road model even if you didn't tell them.

I've said on this board a few times that I can't disclose the company I work for as I can't risk the perception of speaking for my company when I discuss insurance issues but I'm sure there is one company you can cross off the list of possibilities. hahaha.

While I don't work for an insurance company the thought of an "adjuster" dropping your coverage because of a modification is a bit of a far fetched.

So, as a small example; a certain tire came on the car from the factory. You replaced the tires with a different one because you had to. That's a "modification" by definition.

My point is if I wreck my truck and damage an aftermarket wheel, the insurance company won't cover the cost of that wheel. But they WILL cover the cost of the OEM wheel. That what expect them to do, that's what we pay for.

In your case you payed a higher premium to cover a higher incurred charge of after market parts. Which is perfectly fine. In doing so you've disclosed more information for them to make you a "liability" and thus dropping you.

I agree with most, or even all of that. The only thing I don't understand is why Geico would drop him knowing it's an Off-Road truck even before he disclosed aftermarket mods. And why don't they just give him an appropriate rate instead of dropping him. Yeah, time to shop around.

Thanks for the suggestions. Has everyone here gotten extra coverage for their add ins with their companies?

The research I've done is based on the internet so it should be taken with a grain of salt. :)

I want my mods covered. So I'm hoping on of these companies will do it.

This. I invested agood amount in my stereo system. My insurance acknowledges it is permanently mounted and its in the event it gets stolen. I had to have it photographed and brough receipts as well

No problems with State Farm or AAA on my modified vehicles past and present.

I also called about mods, mainly exterior mods that aren't cheap like a Yakima cross bar and Yakima Load Warrior setup which is pretty pricey to replace if stolen.

No extra fees, it's rolled into my existing insurance and all I needed to do was have a picture of it on the vehicle.

I feel yah brother. If you want your mods covered, shop until you find someone who will work with you.

I had an insurance company not renew me a couple years back and Esurance was by far the best quote and very helpful. They are also backed by Allstate, which is a pretty good company.

Full coverage means you carry liability, comp and collision coverage (some people only carry liability). It has nothing to do with what is covered on your truck. When you take out comp or collision coverage, what you're paying for is the value of your vehicle. If you have mods that you want covered in a loss, then report them.
