Will I have to worry about them dropping me because I've never reported a mod and I have a lot since I've got the truck

In the past my insurance has been pretty black and white as far as parts go. If it's a functional part attached to the vehicle, it's covered, otherwise it's not. I've had that rule go for and against me.

Well, I would have said no before the OP told us Geico cancelled him. So I will only say UNLIKELY.

Wow...application of non oem exterior paint? Dude, either a terrible enemy or a really good friend is playing a practical joke on you.

Is that the only document they sent you ? In all the States I handle, we're required to inform the policyholder of the procedures to dispute the cancellation. I'd be very surprised if your State doesn't have that requirement and I sure don't see that info you the letter you posted.

The reason for that is... the insurance policy is required to indemnify you in a loss. That is, put you in your pre-loss condition. If you get a custom paint job, it can be A) very expensive to replicate and/or, B) impossible to replicate.

A buddy of mine had about 5 grand in the paint on his truck. That's getting a nice discount from his best friend.

Right. So imagine his vehicle being in an accident and he files a claim with his insurance company who isn't aware he had a custom paint job and now he wants the vehicle put back in the pre-loss condition. He hasn't been paying premiums to cover it but they'll need to take care of it for him. That's why they can cancel you for not reporting the custom paint job.

Sounds like they'll cancel even if you report it. Catch-22

Most companies will not. Most will figure a rate for you to cover the custom paint job.

Yup. With mine my rate went up a bit, I forget how much.

Geico has the worst reviews of any insurance company.
If I had to guess some asshat who doesn't know dick about cars or the modifications made this happen after watching the Sunday morning power block on spiketv.

This was one of two. The other was to my ex-lien holder. It simply informed them that I was no longer covered. The funny thing is that I own my truck outright and possess the title.

So I contacted Progessive Insurance. Informed them that I had custom parts on my truck without getting overly specific. The agent asked the estimated value of the upgrades and augmented the policy accordingly. She said the standard policy covers $5000 in custom parts, I ended up adding another $5000 of coverage which raised the price another $350 for a 6 month policy. I am still going to talk with the State Farm Agent my girlfriend uses this week to see what they can offer but I'm covered for now. :)

I still have home owners with them thru liberty mutual. Going to change that this week.
