Good deal. And whether you go with Progressive or State Farm, you will get better service all around, policy handling and claim handling.

Like Cam37, I also work for an insurance company. Most, if not all, will offer up a customized equipment endorsement. Call your insurance agent to help you out with what you need covered above and beyond OEM.

it was definitely better with Progressive. I'm sure State Farm will be on par.

Well at least Progressive's info is spot on.... I did the same thing like a week ago and that is exactly what they told me. She said try to save receipts and take pics of mods on vehicles. Basically I added $10k to the value of my truck by going to KBB and adjusting from there. Still waiting for all the paperwork to arrive to read over. I have paperless billing so Progressive has slipped a few things by me that I wasn't aware of.... My fault because I didn't take the time to read it online. They seem kind of pricey to me and after 10 years I think I will be shopping for another carrier. Difficult decision because the have excellent customer service. But it's all about the $ these days. Hopefully others will provide the same device at a better cost

Every year I buy an off road state issued pass. I have nationwide and they have never said boo. As far as mods I don't tell them and they don't need to know. They get paid monthly and on time. They work for me and if they even irritate me slightly I will drop them like a bad habit without looking back and spread the story of it far and wide. I refuse to be a prisoner to any big greedy company.

Now when you get covered by the insurance and you give them an estimate of extras done. Do you have to have receipts when you get into an accident because a lot of stuff that I have are used things

This is a little off topic, but I was told by State Farm that they won't be renewing my coverage because I'm a "high risk" driver. I have a ticket from almost 3 years ago, and a couple minor accidents in the past few years, the most recent were two in the last year that were in a parking lot and parking garage where one was my fault and the other was not. They told me they weren't going to renew and that I needed to look elsewhere, but that if I wanted I could come back in 6 months and they'd love to win back my business.
@CAM37 You seem to be knowledgable here about insurance. Any advice? Or recommendations on companies to try that hopefully won't turn me down for my record. I am a safe driver, just been in the wrong place at the wrong time a few times.

First, I'm a bit surprised they just don't raise your rates instead of dropping you. Of course, insurance is regulated at the State level and just because a company would do that in one State, doesn't mean they'd do it in another.

I can't give any recommendations for you, I can only tell you which ones I would stay away from due to their crappy claim handling. But really, shop around for one that will give you a competitive rate and one that you feel would also provide good service. Don't just jump on the lowest rate because insurance is like most other things in life, you get what you pay for.

If you have a company in mind and want me to share light on their claim service, let me know.

I was surprised as well. Especially since they said, come back and we'll try to win you back.. Why not just keep me? I've always had state farm. I have homeowner's and life insurance with them, so you'd think there'd be a little loyalty or something. I just wasn't sure if there were any better than others or any that would also shy away from me because of my "record."
I've got an allstate I was going to go talk to. I think there's a shelter and nationwide as well. Any info on them? I really appreciate it.

I used to be an Underwriting Manager before I switched to handling claims so I know a little bit about how premiums are determined and why people are canceled. When I left the Underwriting world, we had a saying: There is no driver we can't insure, it's just a matter of finding the right premium. And trust me, being a multi-line and multi-car customer helps when they are deciding who to cancel and who not to cancel. Now... I never handled Underwriting or Claims in Arkansas and like I've said, insurance is heavily regulated at the State level. So, in Arkansas, it's likely State Farm has taken it in the shorts, so to speak, so they are quicker to cancel in that State than most others... just a theory.

Allstate and Nationwide are both reputable and decent companies. As far as their claim handling goes, I'd put them in the very large group of Tier 2 companies. Not the best but FAR from the worst. You'd be fine with either of them.

I have Hanover right now (have for the past four years or so) and have been very happy with them. I had one claim from a "no contact hit and run" and they gave me what I expected for my totaled vehicle. They had a number for me the next afternoon, told me my deductible would only be $250 and my premium wouldn't be impacted. I noticed my insurance nearly double this year and called them and they told me that I was paying for an accident of my sister's because she was listed as an occasional operator. She looked up my sister's policy to make sure it existed, which allowed her to be deferred from mine. Knocked my premium down about $800 for this year. I paid it in full.

A week or so later, the person I talked to called me back and said she was sending me a check because they discovered that had impacted my past year or two as well and they prorated it back.

Interestingly enough, I've gotten quotes from others and they always seem excessive in comparison for identical coverage. I look at them, they appear to be a couple hundred bucks cheaper, then I realize it's a 6 month price rather than a year! I had never even heard of paying in 6-month intervals before. Apparently it's common.

Yes, six month premiums are very common. Most reasons an insurance company can cancel a policy require cancellation at the renewal date, not mid-term (exceptions are DUI, reckless endangerment, etc). So setting up six month renewals allows insurance companies to get rid of bad risks sooner than waiting for an annual period to end.

Glad they fixed your premiums. You sister shouldn't be used to calculate your premium unless she is a risk exposure to them... someone who is a household resident and licensed or a frequent user of your vehicle.
